Edith Nilges Obituary

EDITH SUE HAMMETT NILGES  (Edith) Sue Hammett Nilges, was born on June 2, 1934, in Moberly, Missouri. Her parents were Judge Aubrey R. Hammett and Edith Kellogg Hammett. She attended Moberly Public Schools, graduating in May 1951 from Moberly Senior High School. She worked for three years for Carl L. Kleitz, public accountant.  During her school years, she worked at the State Theatre and AEc W Root Beer drive-in. In 1954 she married David L. Nilges and divorced in 1979. They had two children Theresa Larann Risch, wife of James Risch, Defiance, Mo., and Michael Hammett Nilges, husband of Vicki, of Warrenton, Mo.  Subsequently, she began working for R. G. McKelvey Building Co. as a bookkeeper. During her tenure of 43 years with the McKelvey organizations, she was made vice President and a partner. She held a Missouri Real Estate Broker/Officer license for 30 years and was a Missouri licensed Insurance agent for 20 years.  She was semi-retired in 2001. She was a member of the St. Charles Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Missouri Historical Society, Randolph County Historical Society, Huntsville Historical Society, and Loose Threads Quilt Guild. She attended St Charles County Community College, studying French.  She is survived by her two children and sister, Ann March (Harold) of Lakewood, CO, eight nieces and nephews, numerous great-nieces and nephews, and her lifelong friend Barbara Bartee. Sue was dearly loved by her grandchildren, Richard Batchelder (Tiffini) and Joseph Batchelder (Alicia), and her great-grandchildren, Brianna Batchelder, Alex Batchelder, Colin Batchelder, Jacob Alexander, Madelyn Batchelder, and Landon Batchelder. She was preceded in death by her sisters Laura VanHouten (Don), of Moberly, MO, and Theresa Rucker Phillips (L.C. and Don) of Port Charlotte, Florida, and Moberly, MO, and her granddaughter, Christina Alexander.  The body was cremated. Arrangements by Baue Funeral Home in St. Charles. Memorials may be made to Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church c/o Baue.
