Michael Wright Obituary
MICHAEL ALAN WRIGHT
Michael Alan Wright, 63, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and forever friend, Mark Hunter. Mike was the youngest of our family of seven children and his death came too soon.
Mike was born April 28, 1961, in Moberly, to Donald Parker and Naomi Ruth (Stinson) Wright. He attended high school in Cairo, Missouri, and joined the US Navy at age 17, where he received his GED. He served from 1979-1982 on the USS Nimitz, a nuclear aircraft carrier.
Mike enjoyed the outdoors, especially exploring the woods around the family home at Holiday Acres, going down the spillway, and fishing. He also loved searching for arrowheads. He had a special attachment and
love for family pets; especially our 3-legged dog, Mooch; bird dog, Major; and German Shepard, Andy; he loved running and playing with them. He also loved our cat, Samantha. While living with Debbie, he had a large family of outdoor cats (each one named by him) that he used to sneak into his bedroom at night through a window. The family joked that he loved his animals more than he loved people.
Other interests included watching sports, especially the Kansas City Chiefs and St.Louis Blues. He would become a little heated when they were not performing up to his expectations. He also liked watching the old television shows that we grew up with, especially Gilligan's Island.
Mike is survived by 4 sisters, Vicki (Eric) Turner of Columbia; Deborah Regan of Moberly; and Kris Gillespie and Donna (Donnie) Lewis of Cairo; and 2 brothers, Steven Wright of Columbia and Dennis (Becky) Wright of Moberly. He is also survived by 8 nephews, Michael, Travis, Shawn, Matt,
Kristopher, Dustin, Josh, and Justin, and 3 nieces, Kim, Faith, and Brandy. Also surviving are his aunt and uncle, Mary K. and Jim Coffman, Ripley Tennesee.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Wright; mother and stepfather, Naomi and Major Thompson; grandfather, Hugh Parker Wright; grandmother and step-grandfather, Mabel and Elra Dennis; aunt and uncle, Margaret and Kenneth Neese; and aunt, Carol Wright.
The family wants to thank the compassionate staff of Valley View Health and Rehabilitation Center for their care of Mike during the last two years of his life.
Arrangements are under the direction of Columbia Care Cremation Center. A private memorial service celebrating Mike's life will be held at a future time.
