Patrick Schulte Obituary

PATRICK PETER SCHULTE Patrick Peter "Pat" Schulte, 97, of Moberly, MO, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. He was born on November 14, 1927, in Jefferson City, MO, to the union of August Benard Schulte and Myrtle (Graham) Schulte. He graduated from Russellville High School in 1946 and soon began his career with U.S. Insulation and Roofing Company. In September 1950, Pat was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he proudly served as a paratrooper at Fort Benning, GA. He was honorably discharged in 1952 and returned to the roofing business, continuing his work with his former employer. On November 12, 1955, Pat married Agnes Dorothy Boessen of Westphalia, MO, at St. Joseph Church in Westphalia. They settled in Moberly, where Pat founded Moberly Roofing Company in 1958. After Agnes's passing in March 1995, Pat sold his business and retired later that same year. In 2001, Pat met Annette (Hill) Combs while she was going through RCIA to join the Catholic Church. Their shared faith and love for square dancing brought them together and they were married on April 26, 2003. A devout member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Pat was actively involved in many church activities, including the Knights of Columbus and a church study group where he had been a member for over 55 years. He was also a dedicated participant in the Little Dixie Square Dancers for more than 30 years. Pat generously volunteered at Columbia Regional Hospital for seven years and volunteered at Moberly Regional Medical Center. During the holiday season, he was often seen ringing the Salvation Army bell. One of Pat's greatest legacies was his passion for spreading the message of the cross. He hand-crafted and gave away countless crosses, which became a cherished symbol throughout Moberly and beyond. Pat was deeply devoted to this ministry, having made his 12,000th-yard cross in recent years. His outreach spanned over 100 towns in Missouri and 32 states, sharing the love and message of Christ. His crosses were distributed to nursing homes, schools, and children's programs, touching lives wherever they were received. Pat also led groups in local parades, proudly displaying crosses and banners that shared their faith with the community. Pat is survived by his beloved wife, Annette (Combs) Schulte; his daughter, Patricia Agnes Schulte Davis (Ed) of Dunlap, TN; his son, Matthew August Schulte of Columbia, MO; and his stepchildren, Shawn Combs (Texas) and Shelly Berry (Greg) of Moberly, MO. He was a proud grandfather to August, Caleb, and Faith Schulte of Columbia, MO; and step-grandfather to Matthew Edward Davis of Howell, MI, Jennifer Lyn Davis Erb (Shaun) of Allenton, MI, Nicole McDonald (Cody) of Madison, MO, Doug Sumpter of Independence, MO, and Kyle Sumpter of Moberly, MO. His step-great-grandchildren include Abigail McDonald of Madison, MO, Tristan Erb of Florida, and Hayden Erb of Allenton, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Fund at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 209 S. Williams St, Moberly, MO; Christos Center, 111 N. Fifth St., Moberly, MO; Safe Passage, P.O. Box 456, Moberly, MO. Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at a visitation to be held Friday, June 20, 2025, 9-11 am, at the St. Pius X Catholic Church in Moberly, MO to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Committal prayer and burial will take place in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Moberly, MO.
