Albert Schaapman Obituary

Albert "Bud" Schaapman
April 3, 1931 - February 10, 2023
Modesto, California - Albert "Bud" Schaapman, 91, went to his heavenly home on Friday, February 10, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend.
Bud was born April 3, 1931, in Platte, South Dakota to Gerrit and Winnie Schaapman. The family moved to Modesto when he was a young boy and settled on a small dairy farm north of town. He graduated from Modesto High School. Shortly after graduation, Bud moved to Tillamook, Oregon, where he immediately stole the heart of Dixie Batke. He was drafted into the United States Army, and served his country for two years. Upon his return stateside, he married the love of his life. Bud and Dixie started their family in Tillamook, Oregon. In 1955, after the birth of their first child, a son, they returned to Modesto, California. Bud then graduated from Modesto Junior College, and they soon added three daughters to their brood. As their family grew, Bud and Dixie became members of Paradise Community Reformed Church (now Church of the Cross), where he served as an Elder and a Deacon and played on the church softball team. Bud worked many years in the building industry, where he was known as "Al". Upon his retirement in 1996, he enjoyed using his building skills to complete a long list of "honey-do" projects. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He was known to all as a strong, kind, generous, and, fun-loving man. He was devoted to God and family, and shared his faith by example.
Bud is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jim, and sister, Dena Boer.
He is survived by Dixie, his wife of 70 years, son Garret Schaapman (Tammy), and daughters Laura Schaapman, Patti Truett (Craig) and Karen Saaty (Jim), and sister, Grace Thomsen. He leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 16.3 great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Cross on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 2:00 PM

The Saint-Amands of Ridgecrest send their heartfelt condolences. Having lost our parents, we know how we had wished that ours would live forever in this life, but alas, we'll have to wait till the next to enjoy their company once again. What a joyful reunion that will be!
