Bernard Plaa Obituary

Bernard Plaa
May 10, 1951 - January 1, 2016
Our beloved Dad, "Tachi" (Grandpa), Brother, and Son, Bernard Plaa, was born on May 10, 1951 and entered into heaven on the first day of January, 2016. Ben was born in Ontario, California to Arnold and Marie Plaa, and moved to Turlock in 1962.
As a kid, Ben worked very hard to help his family with all the work that had to be done on their dairy, but he made time to enjoy fun with his brother and sister, and also to play football for Our Lady of Mercy High School. He is said to have been a football star! Ben loved sharing stories about the funny jokes that he and his brother and sister would play on each other and on their dad.
He was proud of his family's Basque heritage and was an excellent Basque glass dancer. Ben was a hard worker, and this was a trait he was able to pass on to his children. He spent many years working for Banquet Foods and Sunnyside Farms and was nearing retirement-something that he looked forward to, so that he could spend even more time enjoying his grandkids. His grandkids were his joy. They made him smile, laugh, and beam with pride and he was extremely proud of all of them. He was also proud of his children and would say this often.
Ben was loved by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his father, Arnold Plaa. Ben is survived by a huge family: his mom, Marie Plaa, sister, Suzanne (Gary) Wahl, brother, Mike (Tami) Plaa, sons, Jeremy (Brooke) Plaa, Ben (Samantha) Plaa, and his daughters, Ashlee (Greg) Schmidt, and April (Andy) Walker. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren: Braden, Tanner, Jenna, Ben, Addisyn, McKenna, Stephen, Eoghen, Paige, Colin, Drew, Nolan, and Taylor. Ben will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, and countless friends who were like family.
A visitation will be held Sunday, January 10 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., in Turlock. The funeral mass will follow on Monday, January 11, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 2602 S. Walnut Rd., Turlock, with interment in Turlock Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend thanks for all of your kind words, thoughts, prayers, and love.

I offer my honest and heart felt sympathy to all of the Plaa family, especially to Ben and Ashlee. Your father was a good man, and I have much respect for him. May the peace of God be upon all that loved Ben, and the sadness of missing him be eased by knowing he is safely in Heaven.
