December 12, 1933 - July 11, 2025
Hilmar, California - Bernice Lee Sumpter Burch, born December 12, 1933, in Salina, OK, was sent to her eternal home on July 11, 2025, in Turlock, CA, a daughter of the late Sam and Cleo Sumpter.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Burch; brother John Sumpter; sisters Betty Prickett and Dorothy Lake; grandson Ryan Scott Cantrell; son-in-law Jim Cantrell and granddaughter Whitney Burch Rowton.
Bernice attended Hilmar First Baptist Church and was happily retired after many years of working for Foster Farms. She enjoyed quilting and was a devoted grandmother. After the death of her husband, Sam Burch, she volunteered for Community Hospice Grief Support Groups and the Turlock Sunshine Club.
Bernice is survived by three sons and three daughters-in-law, Ronald Burch (Connie), Larry Burch (Cookie), Mark Burch (Laurie); one daughter, Sandra Cantrell; one sister, Pat Mize; ten grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; six nieces and four nephews. She also leaves many other family and friends who will sadly miss her.
A viewing will be held on Monday, July 21 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Turlock Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 22 at 9:00 a.m. at Hilmar Cemetery with a reception to follow at Hilmar First Baptist Church.
