Beverley Sousa Obituary

Beverly Jeanne Sousa was born in San Francisco, CA May 18, 1940 and died peacefully at home with her husband and her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel J and Bernice Graney, her sister, Mary Ellen Parrigon and her sons, Brian Sousa and Steven Loschke. She is survived by her husband, Wayne Sousa, her brother Daniel Graney and her children, Nancy Campbell (Mark), Michael Loschke, Patrick Loschke (Juli), Karen Henriquez (Nelson), Brian's wife Teresa and Stevens wife, Carrie. She found great joy in her six children and dozens of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bev worked for nearly 30 years as a Realtor and Real Estate Broker in Modesto starting in 1977 when there were very few females in Real Estate. She helped many families get started in their first homes and others upgraded their homes as their family grew. She was highly respected by many for her work ethic and honesty.

She and Wayne loved to travel taking a cross-country trip together across the United States building great memories together. These were the early days of GPS so many times, they heard the familiar and frustrating "recalculating" directions as they pulled there fifth wheel around some treacherous routes that forced both of them to bite their tongue to avoid expressing their frustration in a less than helpful manner. This was the beauty of her relationship with Wayne, caring for one another during the good times and difficult times.

What grounded her more than anything was the faith they shared in Christ. She taught that faith to her children and shared her faith with anyone she encountered. This included groups at church or support groups she was involved in where she mentored many. It has been her faith that carried her through illness and bonded her to her husband and family. She will be missed by us all!

Our family began a relationship with Bev and family when my mother Rose sang with Bev in the choir at Sacred Heart Church in Fresno. As a child I remember Bev with long beautiful hair and a glowing smile. Bev and Mom kept in touch when they discovered they both now lived in Modesto. Fast forward many years and we cross paths again when Bev's son Patrick is in my 6th grade class during my first year of teaching. We now live in the same neighborhood as Carrie and Steven. I'm saddened to read of Bev's passing. Although I only spoke with her maybe twice in the last 5 years, she was always a gracious lady, asking about Mom, and projecting such energy. I recently sent her notice about Mom's passing and received no response. I understand now why, and I'm so sorry. Our condolences to the entire family. May she rest peacefully.

Bev was a very dear and special friend for over 30 years. We met while we were both living in the Copper Creek neighborhood in Modesto. There was an immediate and special kindred-spirit connection that never changed. When I moved to Pine Mountain Lake, Bev sold my home. When she and Wayne moved to Pine Mountain Lake, we shared many good times, working together on community service and social projects, always with fun and laughter. When she and Wayne moved back to Modesto we always stayed connected. Bev would always remember birthdays and anniversaries with personal cards in her beautiful handwriting. She was grounded in her faith, adored her husband Wayne, loved her family and always had wonderful stories to share with friends. During what would be our last visit only 8 days before her passing, she gave me a very special Christmas ornament with a poem and the words "Big Sis, Little Sis". I will treasure it always and forever. With Love, Judy
