On a road trip from California to New Orleans in 2004 my Uncle Bob regaled me with stories from his youth when he emigrated with Minta and Charlie (his adoptive parents) from the dust bowl of Oklahoma to California. They stayed in government camps and led the life depicted by John Steinbeck in THE GRAPES OF WRATH picking produce from one end of the state to the other. He liked Wonder Bread sandwiches and playing cards. He was a peacemaker and a hard worker who lived the American Dream. I will miss him.
