Bob McCullough Obituary

Bob Robert McCullough
May 14, 1930 - May 8, 2023
Ceres, California - Bob R. McCullough was born on May 14, 1930 to Cora Lee Dixon Chastain & Charles Chastain in Bristow, Oklahoma. He was the youngest of 5 siblings, who was adopted by Charles & Minta McCullough after the sudden & tragic death of their father that left Cora Lee widowed with 5 Children to raise during the depression. He passed away in Modesto on May 8th, 2023 at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Beverly Joan McCullough of Modesto & sons Bob Prosise (Gail) of Orland, Ca. & John Prosise of Cottonwood, Ca; Michael C. McCullough of San Jose; David R. McCullough (Laura) of Ceres; daughters Karen S. Painter (Howard) of Redmond Oregon; Judith A. McCullough of Modesto & Donna K. Yarnal (Tim) of Modesto. He leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, & 1 great-great granddaughter. He retired from Tracy Defense Depot after working 30 plus years. Not only did he, his wife & his father build the family home in Ceres, he also enjoyed making other useful carpentry projects such as unique barn owl nesting boxes & custom-built duck blinds among many other woodworking projects for family & friends; lending his carpentry expertise whenever needed. He was well known for often reminding everyone to "measure twice & cut once" in addition to a variety of other (some quite colorful) quips & quotes. He enjoyed a good game of Texas Hold 'Em poker & had many friends & acquaintenances at the Turlock Poker Room. A celebration of Bob's life will be held on July 8th, 2023 @ 2:00 p.m. in the Horizon Room at Homewood Village Manufactured Home Community, 2000 Mable Avenue, Modesto. Burial will be private.

On a road trip from California to New Orleans in 2004 my Uncle Bob regaled me with stories from his youth when he emigrated with Minta and Charlie (his adoptive parents) from the dust bowl of Oklahoma to California. They stayed in government camps and led the life depicted by John Steinbeck in THE GRAPES OF WRATH picking produce from one end of the state to the other. He liked Wonder Bread sandwiches and playing cards. He was a peacemaker and a hard worker who lived the American Dream. I will miss him.
