Vera Marlett Obituary

Vera Nadeen (Cross) Marlett, born at Kiowa, Oklahoma, to Robert N. Cross and Maybelle (Stout) Cross, passed away peacefully at the Casa de Modesto Retirement Center. Predeceased by her husband, Edgar E. Marlett, she is survived by her daughter, Jeanette, sons Jim and Douglas, and her last brother, Talvin J. Cross.

Moving from Oceanside, California to Modesto in 1950, Vera enjoyed the central valley location, which afforded easy access to the recreational opportunities available at both the coast and mountains, and nearby parks, rivers, and lakes. In addition to arranging annual family reunions at various sites up and down California, Vera also traveled across the nation researching, assembling, and publishing two separate genealogical books chronicling both the Marlett and Cross families.

Vera also was a proud Cub Scout Den Mother and, for many years, was an active member of the Mother Lode Mineral Society, collecting and finishing rock and mineral specimens for display. Aside from card games, her most favorite pastime was fishing, which she truly loved....you rarely could finish asking before she'd have pole and tacklebox in hand, ready to go.

At 99+, Vera was predeceased by three brothers, Jack, Oscar, and Bob, both sisters, Lillie and Nora, and most of her long-time friends. In recent years, recalling the family members and friends who've passed on, Vera requested that no formal service be held, nor any special event follow her demise. Yet, for those of you who may remember her, we think she'd like it if you'd stop and reflect a moment on the time you shared together, and offer up a simple, kind prayer...Rest in peace, Vera.
