Curtis Darrell Marlett, 84, of Bowie, was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, and passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, in Bowie, Texas. Born on August 28, 1940, in Chico, Texas, Curtis lived a life marked by dedication, service, and for those around him.

Funeral service is 1:00 PM, July 21, 2025, at Hawkins Funeral Home, Bridgeport, TX. The interment will take place on July 22, 2025, at DFW National Cemetery, starting at 9:15 AM. The family will receive friends 1 hour before the service at the funeral home.

Curtis retired from the United States Army on July 1, 1981, where he served with honor as a Staff Sergeant First Class. Over his military career, he worked diligently as a construction equipment mechanic for 18 years and spent an additional two years as part of the Hercules Missile crew. His exemplary service earned him several accolades, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Good Conduct Medal (awarded five times), and the Meritorious Service Medal. These honors reflect his commitment to his country and his steadfast dedication to his duties. In addition to his military accomplishments, Curtis was a proud alumnus of Bridgeport High School, graduating in 1958. He was known for his friendly nature and his passion for spending time with family and friends. Curtis had a keen interest in rebuilding cars, a hobby that sparked joy and creativity in his life.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Marlett and Vera (Odell) Marlett; his son, Curtis Marlett, Jr.; and his first wife, Carolyn (Prime) Marlett.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Velda (Whitaker) Marlett; his brothers, Larry and Ronald Marlett; his daughter, Michelle Tran, and her husband, Nghia of Kansas; and his cherished grandchildren, Amanda and her husband Matthew of Frisco, Ashleigh of California, and Curtis III of Colorado; his great-grandchildren, Landon and Madelyn. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. Curtis will be deeply missed yet fondly remembered for being a purveyor of hard times, holding people accountable to be their very best, his unwavering love, keen sense of humor, exemplary service, and the joy he brought into the lives of others. May he rest in peace.
