Ross Tipton Obituary

Visit the Hawkins Funeral Homes - Bridgeport website to view the full obituary.

After a courageous battle with a brain tumor, Ross Tipton went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 7, 2026.

Ross was born August 5, 1969, to Ronald and Margaret “Peggy” (Tartt) Tipton in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Upon graduation from MacArthur High School in San Antonio, Ross attended Baylor University and was a member of the track and field team as well as the President’s Leadership Forum. Ross was also an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes during his time at Baylor where he made several lifelong friends.

Ross spent many years honing his skills as a mechanic, specializing in elevators and serving in the United States Navy. His journey began with a passion for engineering, leading him to become an expert in maintaining and repairing complex elevator systems, ensuring safety and reliability for countless passengers. Additionally, his time in the military equipped him with a unique set of mechanical and problem-solving skills, allowing him to tackle a diverse range of mechanical challenges under high-pressure conditions. Throughout his career, Ross demonstrated a strong work ethic and dedication to his craft, contributing significantly to the safety and functionality of both civilian and military operations.

Ross’ service in the Navy was exemplary. In 2017, he received a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certificate from the US Army Depot for his work in improving efficiencies. Ross served as a Chief Information Technician with Navy Operations Support Center Corpus Christi and, after 19 years of service, Ross was pinned Chief Petty Officer in 2018, and in 2022, he was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer.

Ross married the love of his life, Jill Thompson, on August 3, 2003, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Even during his illness, Ross’ focus was taking care of Jill. One of his final missions was moving Jill back to Texas so she could be closer to family and friends. He successfully completed that mission only two weeks before he passed.

Ross was truly the best friend anyone could have. Always putting others’ needs before his own, he deeply cared for his friends and family. Despite his illness, he never lost his sense of humor or his quick wit. His positive attitude in the face of insurmountable odds is a testament to his deep faith in Jesus Christ. He knew that even if he couldn’t beat the tumor, his ultimate victory was secure in Christ. His place in Heaven assured.

Ross is survived by his wife, Jill Tipton of North Richland Hills; his parents, Ronald and Peggy Tipton; his sister, Rachel Cleland of Hicksville, Ohio; his brother, Ronald Tipton, and his wife, Tricia of Floresville, Texas; his nephew, Aticus Tipton; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Ross’ life was defined by his faith, his devotion to his wife, and his compassion for others. He loved generously, laughed often, and leaves behind a legacy of joy, resilience, and unwavering love. Those who knew him were blessed by his presence, and he will be missed beyond measure.

The funeral service is 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 26th , at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport, TX with burial at East Bridgeport Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:oo - 8:oo p.m. Wednesday, February 25th, at the funeral home.
