Charles Mealer Obituary

Charles Mealer

February 21, 1940 - March 22, 2025

Red Bluff, California - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father & Poppy, Charles "Charlie" Mealer (85), who left us suddenly from a brain aneurysm on March 22nd, 2025 in Red Bluff, Ca.

Charlie will be remembered for his 30 years of honorable service as a California Highway Patrolman, his ability to build or fix anything, his "pretty good" golfing, his love for going on trips to Charleston, McCloud (and more) in the 5th wheel with his group of fellow travelers, "The Traildusters", and an avid dancer.

Most importantly, Charlie will be remembered for his sweet, caring nature and loving his family more than anything even stocking up non-perishables to feed them all (for years) with the pending "Y2K" doomsday (we never let that one go!). For being a devoted father and best friend to his son, they did so many things together watched old movies & shows, tinkered on things & refurbished anything they could get their hands on, and more recently, taking a road trip to North Dakota in the 5th wheel, just the two of them. Charlie was even Gregs best-man in his wedding! Additionally, he was a heavily involved Poppy to Ash and Scotty. He attended every special occasion or event, holiday, hakka-birthdays, and they spent many weekends up at the cabin making world's best snowmen.

Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Frank & Audrey Mealer, his brother James "Bud" Mealer, his sisters Virginia Obanion, Marilyn Dean and Doris Jarvis, his first wife Myrna Mealer, his daughter Pam Matthews, and his 2nd wife, Cherry Mealer.

Charlie is survived by his brother Tom Mealer, his sister Bobbie Grimes, his son, best friend & proudest accomplishment, Greg Mealer, his grandchildren who were his entire life and a "Poppy" to, Ashleigh Mealer & Scott Mealer, and "former daughter in-law but will always be my daughter", Rene Brooks. Charlie also leaves behind 2 stepdaughters, Shelley & Kim, their children Alycia, Taylor, Haley, Riley, their families, and countless friends that he held close to his heart.

A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 21st, 2025, at the Red Bluff Elks Lodge at 1 p.m., where we will gather to share stories and indulge in Poppy Charlie's favorite food: Candy.

Charlie, my best friend, companion & dancing partner. Oh how we danced our hearts out three nites a week to the music of your favorite band, the coyotes in red bluff.always wanting to "wow" them with your smooth moves. Every day we burned up hwy 5 (on the road again) laughing, sharing stories & just having fun. On the down side we would "swang" in the swing overlooking the river listening to "Charlie's " music ".so, until
we dance together again, goodbye from your best friend- companion. Love you, miss you. Aldeane

To Charlie´s family: thank you for this beautiful writing of his life. It is obvious he lived a full happy life and is well loved. Charlie´s dad Frank was my grandmother´s brother (Dosia Mealer). I was excited to make connection with Greg through a family history search, and he was able
To share that with Charlie. Even though we haven´t met, I can tell you that our Mealer relatives, as you´ve described Charlie, exemplify strong faith, close families, hard work and service. Thank you for helping ke to know Charlie; praying for you.
