APRIL 22, 1935 - JANUARY 7, 2016
David Anthony Souza was born April 22, 1935 in Merced, California to John and Polmira Souza. He went peacefully home to the Lord January 7, 2016.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, John and Polmira, his brother John Souza, nephews, Johnny Souza Jr., Anthony Angelo and brother-in-law, Tony Angelo.
Dave was raised on his family's farm in Atwater, along with his brother John and his sister Mamie. He attended Atwater-Jordan Elementary School and graduated from Livingston High School in 1953. Shortly after graduation Dave joined the National Guard, where he served until 1962.
In 1955 he met his loving wife of 59 years, Inez Frontella. They married September 16, 1956 and moved to their own farm on Cressey Way. Dave loved his family and his farm, and took great pride in both. He was a member of St. Anthony's Parish, YMI, Blue Diamond, Northern Merced Hulling, The Eagles, PFSA as well as a past member of the Elks.
Dave is survived by his wife Inez, son David (Cindy), daughter Debi Ballard (Steve), his three grandchildren, David John Souza, Heather Gasaway (Mark), and Megan McMillin (Kirk), and his three great-grandchildren, Abigail and Noah Gasaway and Corbin Souza.
Services will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Atwater. There will be a Rosary at 10:30 AM followed by mass of Christian burial at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Winton District Cemetery. Donations can be made in Dave's honor to Hinds Hospice, Stanford University or St. Anthony's School.

David will be greatly missed....we loved his smile, kind gestures and calm demeanor. Such a great soul that made you instantly feel comfortable with a great sense of humor. We loved talking with him about the past, milking cows, working the farm, planting a garden and all that great farm boy stuff with a Portuguese twist!

Please know that you have all been in my thoughts and prayers during this time. We love you, and will miss Dave always. The last several years he provided a lot of comfort to me with his concern for Daddy. I know this has been difficult, but I feel that he is with God.

We cherish the fond memories of David. His love of family, friends, his community, farming and his devotion to his church. We celebrate a life well lived.
