David Truax Obituary

David Ernest Truax
October 9, 1964 - October 29, 2020
Modesto, California - David Ernest Truax, age 56, of Modesto, California, and formerly of Turlock, California, entered heaven's gates Thursday, October 29th, 2020. He was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, son of the late Combs Craig and Ellamae Jean Truax. He is survived by his wife, Carol Truax, sons Matthew and Nicholas (Natalie) Truax, granddaughter Josie Mae Truax, sisters Mary (Don) Truax, Debra (Patrick) Flannery, nephews Terrance (Celina) Truax, Timothy Truax, Craig (Deanna) Flannery and Sean Flannery. David was a proud veteran having served in the United States Navy as an Ocean Systems Technician Petty Officer, 2nd Class (OTA2). His career then spanned many years in the computer technology field including serving as the Deputy Chief Information Officer for the City of Modesto. Dave was very accomplished in his field receiving four consecutive awards for municipal IT department excellence in operations, appearing in a featured cover story in Western Cities Magazine, and holding advisory board positions with major computer companies. He was nominated in 2008 as one of CIO Magazine's "One to Watch". Additionally, Dave served as an elder and youth director in his church, Good Shepherd Lutheran. He was also active in his community and high school football activities for many years. Dave had a heart for young people as well as the elderly, and he will always be remembered for his ability to make people laugh and bring joy to their life. He loved his family and his God, and will be greatly missed by all. David is laid to rest at the National Veterans Cemetery in Santa Nella, California.

My heart just sunk when hearing the news of Dave passing. I met him in OTA school in Norfolk Virginia in1984. He was truly a great person and friend
We shared lots of great times together in school and just hanging out, he was part off our Rat Pack as we called ourselves back then. I still have pictures of you my Brotha to bring back the memories and the good times we shared. May God continue to Bless and Keep you, Carol and your family safe

On a different note Don passed away on November 9th. Look for him, he is probably getting the boat and fishing gear together for us when I get to heaven with him. LOVE AND MISS YOU SO. Merry Christmas my friend. It must be so nice for you, Ma, Dad, Tom and Ed to be able to put Christmas Ornaments on the Ultimate White Tree. I am so glad you are at peace with the Family. On another note Because you always made me laugh, remember the time I was out visiting at Thanksgiving and you went into the mountains and brought back the biggest "Dust" tree..... I still have the pictures of all of us decorating it, hysterical. Also, the Neighborhood Party the night after Thanksgiving. I miss you so much Bro, wish you were with us, But I do know you are in the best place with the Lord. We will see you at the gates of Heaven. GB Sis

I met Dave at OTA school in Norfolk VA, directly after boot camp. He had a wonderful sense of humor that could make anyone laugh! I always thought he was one of the smartest people I'd ever met, yet his brilliance was never clouded by ego - he was friends with everyone and never made me feel like less while I knew his brain was light years ahead of mine!

He was also a wonderful artist. I recall being out at Damn Neck VA for additional training after OTA school and he did a fabulous design in the sand of our OTA emblem/class number. Just a quick thing that 35 years later is still etched in my memory.

I was so glad when our orders came that we both ended up going to Adak, AK. He kept us laughing up there too!

Hi wife Carol and I were in boot camp together in Orlando, FL, as well as OTA school and Adak. I'm glad we all had that time together. Those connections still mean a lot to me.

I will always have very fond memories of Dave. Rest in peace, my friend, and peace as well to all his family.

Not sure where to begin we had the Camaro years then the Tran-Am years and before that it was Craig’s Cordoba, David would barrow for the weekend. We had the Lawton neighborhood where Mrs Truax lived and Harrisburg’s 2nd street when Mr Truax would take us around to all his stops, soda & hot dogs for us or maybe Seafood bisque at The Harris House! Then there was the Sea Cadets and so much time spent with Ed (VW bus) and Frysinger Pontiac. David loved and respected Ed and talked about Tom and his sisters often! We spent so much time together so many memories and stories to tell. We were best friends I love and miss you buddy. My condolences to the Truax family. Black Bird Row
