Donald Jepson Obituary

Donald Paul Jepson

April 5, 1946 - February 23, 2025

Modesto, California - Donald Paul Jepson was born April 5, 1946, in West Plains, Missouri. He grew up with a fishing pole in his hands, following his dad and three brothers through the foothills of Northern California while enjoying campouts, hunting, and fishing. His parents, Mary and Frank Jepson were hard-working members of the Greatest Generation. Neither graduated from high school, but they raised four boys who all graduated from college and went on to excel in work and play. Don's dad taught him about construction and carpentry as he worked alongside him at ACME Construction. Don's education and experience served him well as he became the "Fix It Man" for the whole family.

Don attended Tuolumne Elementary School, Roosevelt Junior High and Downey High School in Modesto. Don earned a B.A. and M.A, in Chemistry from Stanislaus State and a PhD in Chemistry from University of the Pacific. In the 1970's, he worked as a microbiologist in the lab at Campbell Soup in Modesto. Later he went on to work in Quality Control for Tri Valley Growers. He began his career as a QC Supervisor at Plant 7, working the night shift and coming home smelling like tomatoes. Don eventually worked his way up to Director of Engineering for Seneca Foods. In addition, he taught the Howard Mold Count Method at MJC throughout his career and into retirement. Don always kept up on technology and never needed his grandkids to teach him how to use his iPhone. After he retired, Don applied his food processing knowledge by participating in church chili cook offs, barbecuing, and making delicious homemade salsa from his garden.

Don had many interests and hobbies, but his first priorities were God and family. Don and his wife Kathlyn Taylor Jepson were happily married for 53 years until her death in 2022. Together they raised two daughters, Janelle Peoples and Kristi Warren. His life was full of love, faith, and service to others. Don was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church of Modesto for most of his adult life. He enjoyed leading the Baskets of Hope food distribution. He loved working with the youth group in his younger days and later helping with Wednesday night dinners. He continued the Taylor family tradition of supporting the Salvation Army. He is survived by his daughters Janelle (Jim) and Kristi (Rob), two grandchildren, Natalie and Ryan Peoples, and his brothers Dean and John Jepson.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 1600 Carver Rd, Modesto, CA 95350. A reception will follow.

Don was a long time gardener at Church of the Cross at Dale/Snyder. We had not only a bond about gardening , but we both went to UOP . So we always talked about the school . Don kept a well kept plot at the community garden . Blessings to his family.

I was lucky to have known Don for over 44yrs since I was born. I consider him like a father to me. He was my dad's best friend growing up. I have so many great memories of him taking me fishing and backpacking when I was young. He would always say "we don't need to pack dinner we'll catch on the river" And he always did. I always enjoyed talking Giants baseball with aunt Kathy you guys took me to my first game and became a fan ever since. The homemade ice cream he would make on the 4th of July. Watching him make the the best bbq and homemade salsa ever. His little dog Cinnamon who would go with us on fishing trips. He was such an incredible man with an absolute heart of gold. I love you so much uncle Don and I know you and aunt Kathy are now im Heaven together. You made such an impact in my life and I will always cherish the time I got to spend with you and your family. The whole Stanton family misses you and love you

Jim and I knew Don and Kathy from our time in the Mariners at Trinity. Don hired me to work in the lab at Tri-Valley! I worked there for 3 summers. There was no questioning that he was the smartest person in the room! However, he lead, taught, and supervised with genuine kindness, respect and humor! I will not forget those times at work and at Trinity. Jim and I send our love to the family.

I hired Don at Campbell Soup Co. in the mid 1960's. A very smart guy, cheerful and always upbeat. After I resigned and took another job in Southern California, we lost contact, but Marty Belleville, whom I also hired at the job in SoCal, always kept me up-to-date on Don's whereabouts and activities. So. there is a connection between the three of us that goes way back. I really liked Don and his congeniality always stood out so clearly as prominently noted in his obituary.

We were blessed to have Don in our lives for 44 years. He was the go-to guy....always ready to help no matter the situation....volunteering, making a pot of chili, hosting a party. Don rarely checked his schedule...his immediate answer was, "Yes, I´ll help," in that gentle & thoughtful Don Jepson way.
We are thankful for Don´s generous friendship. He will be greatly missed.

Dear Janelle and Kristi, no one has to tell you what a great man your father was. He was the kindest, gentlest "Big Guy" I´ve ever met. He hired me when I was just 17 to work with him at TVG. I had just started my schooling at MJC in biology and my guidance counselor introduced me to your father. He hired me on the spot and for the next 10 years I looked to your father for guidance. Even after I left to further my own career in other food companies I would come back to visit him and "Sammy" and regale them with my travel adventures. Your father saw something in me that did not know I had. He inspired me to think "outside" the box and to always find new and innovative ways of doing things. I can easily say that he is one of the top 3 people in my early life that enabled me to become what I am. The other 2 are my father, Mehran Samimi (Sammy) and him. We always exchanged Christmas cards and although I did not see him much in the later years I always remembered his funny laugh, his calming voice and his ability to fix anything.

He will be missed.

Great son, brother, husband, father, fisherman, and friend. Don spent most of his life preparing for this transition. He is in good hands. Say "Hi" to everybody. You are missed.

Don was my brother in law. He was one who you would call `good people´... kind, caring, generous with time and talent. He found great joy in serving others and God. His disposition was always positive. He was always ready to help any way he could.
Don was a `prince´ of a man and he will be greatly missed.
