Edna Grubb Obituary

Edna May Grubb
August 27, 1924 - April 21, 2015
Edna Grubb was quietly and peacefully called home by the Lord on April 21, 2015.  Edna is survived by her husband of 69 years, Jack G. Grubb, her two children, Steve Grubb (Helen) and Patty Kearsley (Gary), her grandchildren Brandi Musser (Rick), Kevin Grubb (Jessica), Elizabeth Musser, Michelle Wilkes, Nicole Wilkes and her great grandchildren Brooke Musser, Aiden and Olivia Wilkes.
Edna was born in San Bernardino, CA on August 27, 1924 where she attended both Elementary and High School.  While at San Bernardino High School she was active in choir and small vocal ensembles.
In 1945, Edna met and fell in love with her future husband, Jack Grubb.  The two incidentally met at a family funeral.  After only six dates, Jack was deployed to sea while enlisted in the United States Navy.  The two corresponded through letters sent in the mail for a year.  Following the conclusion of World War II, Jack was given an Honorable Discharge and on March 3, 1946, Jack and Edna said "I Do" before God at the First Methodist Church in Modesto, Ca.
In 1949 Edna gave birth to their first child and son Steve Grubb.  A few years later in 1954, they welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Patricia Grubb.  The family lived in Manteca, CA until 1956 when the decision was made to move to Modesto to shorten Jacks commute.  They purchased a two acre almond/walnut ranchette.  Not only did they raise their children on this ranchette, but the home currently remains in the family, and their grandchildren and great grandchildren have been raised there.  Edna loved to entertain friends and many parties and dinners were hosted as well. In 1970, Edna decided to pursue a career in teaching in order to be near and help young children.  Edna was looked up to as a role model and in many cases as a second mom to many.
Edna was a devout Christian woman and loved being a member of Maze Blvd Christian Church for 45 years, she worked tirelessly preparing meals and working in various church related organizations.  Edna dedicated over 20 years teaching during the summer for Grace Lutheran Vacation Bible School.  In 2009, her and Jack became members of Grace Lutheran Church in Modesto, Ca.
In retirement, Jack and Edna enjoyed working around their home, traveling and spending time with family and friends.  Edna was known by her grandchildren and great grandchildren as "Nana."  Nana had an affinity for butterflies and baking.  Most everyone had the pleasure of eating her cookies, but it was her grandkids that loved them the most.
In lieu of flowers, any monetary gifts would be appreciated to be donated in memory of Edna to Grace Lutheran School, 617 W. Orangeburg, Modesto, CA, as Edna had a passion for young people's early education.
Interment will be private, however a memorial service will be held on May 2, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, 617 W. Orangeburg, Modesto, CA.
Edna will be laid to rest at Burwood Cemetery in Escalon, CA.

I rarely write about the people I know especially when they have left this world. Edna is a very special person to me. I first met her in 1998. I am both happy for knowing her and sad for the loss of her gentle spirit. She remains one of the influential examples of love, kindness, family, spiritual devotion, and caring in my life. She accepted me and included me within her family and circle of friends even though I arrived late in her life. Like all that know her, I will honor her in my own life by sharing her example of kindness, caring, and family strength that she represents to everyone whom she touched along her way. It is a great thing in life to be able to reflect upon the goodness in meaningful relationships that only some of us get to experience. In part, that is my lesson from you Edna. May you find peace with God in the way you shared peace with so many while you were with us. Godspeed Edna.

Dear Jack, many of my fondest memories of Edna are the wonderful times we shared at Pismo Beach. And my favorite
story is about the trouble she had with the doorknobs in Washington, DC. She was a dear lady who brought much joy into my life just by being Edna. Peace to you all, Mary Carr
