Eric Shelton Obituary

Eric Alger Shelton passed away unexpectedly on the morning of July 27, 2024, in the Modesto home shared with his wife of 43 years, Mieko Shelton. He died peacefully of natural causes in his sleep at age 66, just one week shy of his 67th birthday,.

He owned and operated Eye Pros in Turlock, CA.

The importance of family was a major theme in Eric's life. He enjoyed family dinners on Sundays. He also loved hosting open-house gatherings of family and friends on holidays and special occasions.

Eric loved fishing and was a big fan of the San Francisco 49ers and Giants. It was a special joy for him to have Giants season tickets in 2022 and share them with friends and family.

Yet the activity that probably brought Eric the most personal and professional satisfaction in recent years was his volunteer work traveling with The Flying Samaritans, a non-profit group of professionals who provide free health care services to poor people in remote areas of Mexico. A kind man, a good man, and a friend who could be counted on, he always valued the opportunity to be helpful to others, especially to those less fortunate than himself.

His big smile, joyous laughter, and warm embrace will be missed by many, but especially by his wife, Mieko; his daughters, Sarah Carleo and her husband, Tony Carleo, Alexandra Shelton, and her fiancé, Jesse Wright; his grandchildren, Kaya and Rocco Carleo; his brother, Mark Shelton, sister, Sally Shelton, and their families; as well as a host of extended family and dear friends.

A Celebration of Life in memory of Eric will be held in Modesto on August 16, 2024, starting at 4:30 p.m. at Ashby Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations to The Flying Samaritans may be made in Eric's name.

Peace be with you and your family. Eric raised exceptionally artistic and creative girls that he supported with a generous spirit. I enjoyed his beaming smile and kind thoughts as he watched them on stage. It´s been a pleasure to know you and share in your families memories. I´m sorry I can´t be there to wrap my arms around you.

My deepest sympathy and prayers to Eric's family. I have had the privilege of working with Eric's wife Mieko for many years. Mieko is always so gracious to share many stories of her family. The love that she had when speaking of Eric is something I will always remember and will hold forever in my heart.
