Oakdale, California - Floyd Windell Mathis, October 27, 1940 - April 7, 2022 (81) was born in Wyandotte Oklahoma to Claud & Nellie (Jones) Mathis. He was preceded in death by his parents Claud & Nellie Mathis. Brothers Earl and Claud (Curly) Willard. Sisters Violet Hall Genevive Fields, Othelia (Lee) Warfield and Sue Owens. Survived by his wife & best friend of 47 years, Bonnie Mathis. He leaves behind 4 children Keith Mathis (Sever) of Sacramento, Collette Castillo of Oakdale, Tammy Henderson of Georgia and Penny Moore of Waterford. Along with two stepchildren Mike Shatswell of Victorville and Christy Carrizales of Rosamond.
His Sister Claudette McCoy (Bob) of Nampa, ID. Leaving 11 Grandchildren and 24 Great Grandchildren, many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins along with many other friends.
Floyd joined Operating Engineers from 1964-2000. Working for The Walsh Construction, Angels Tunnel Project, Auburn Derversion Tunnel, Washington DC for Shae-Ball, coming to California in 1975 to work at Melones Dam in Jamestown. He later worked on The Pacheco Pass, Sierra Construction, Gates & Fox and Roosevelt Lake. After he was employed by Tudor-Saliba to work on The LA Metro Line and projects in San Francisco before retiring in 2000. He continued to repair tools for Tudor-Saliba for two years after his retirement. His love of crafts had him making wire trees mounted on drift wood which received multiple Blue Ribbons at several fairs and one at a State Fair in Sacramento. He had a love and passion for creating yard art through the use of welding. Floyd also had a deep interest of restoring old and classical vehicles. He was a member of the Blue Lodge, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason as well as a member of the AAHMES Shriner. Above all, his love came back to his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren along with his beloved pets Snickeers and Candee.
