Gabriel Cuevas Obituary
GABRIEL CUEVAS SEPT 1, 1980 - JUNE 11, 2004
Gabriel Cuevas, age 23, died as a result of a motorcycle accident Friday, June 11, 2004. Mr. Cuevas was born in Modesto and a lifelong resident of Los Banos. Gabriel was a Police Explorer from the age of 13 years old until 18 years old for Merced County Sheriff's Department and the City of Los Banos Police Department. At the age of 18, Gabriel became a Merced County Reserve Deputy. He graduated from the Police Academy in 1999 at which time he joined the Ceres Police Department. He later went on to work for Merced County Sheriff's Department and the Newman Police Department. While working with Newman Police Department, Gabriel helped revitalize the Newman Explorer Post. Not only was law enforcement his passion, but he also worked for World Savings in Milpitas, and loved spending time with his family, friends and customizing cars.
Gabriel was a hardworking, loving, and very generous man with a great sense of humor. He defined his life by one simple word, "Integrity."
Gabriel Cuevas is survived by his parents, Manuel and Elva Cuevas of Los Banos; a brother, Manuel Cuevas and sister in law, Anna of Dos Palos; his grandparents Librado Zamora Maldonado, Maria Felicita Aparicio, and Pastor Cuevas all of Mexico; his companion of four and a half years Nicki Solis of Ceres; and his niece, Celine Cuevas of Dos Palos. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Trinidad Lemos also of Mexico.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 PM- 9:00 PM, Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at The Cuevas residence 1534 Cypress Place in Los Banos, California. A Vigil Prayer service will be held at 6:00 P.M., Thursday, June 17, 2004 also at their residence in Los Banos, California. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 A.M., Friday, June 18, 2004 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church 1621 Center Avenue in Los Banos, California. Mt. Senior J. Wayne Hayes will officiate. The burial will immediately follow at Los Banos Cemetery, 16575 South Center Ave., in Los Banos, California.
Any contributions can be made to Officer, Gabriel Cuevas's Memorial Fund that is established at any County Bank.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home in Merced.

My condolences have gone out to the Cuevas family ever since the first day. It's been a few years now and it still hurts to think of my very good friend, who is now gone. Gabriel and I went to school together and worked at the same supermarket. Gabe, I'll never forget you. Eras un compa de verdad...Lo siento mucho que ya no estes aqui. I was with Gustine Police Explorers. Gabe and i got along like brothers, we were about the same age, so we would hang out whenever our Explorer Posts would get together..... Shooting at the range, Marching in the awful heat during summer, Working at the fairs and at Pebble Beach. He left nothing but good memories with me and the rest of the Explorers, we all loved him like our own.....I sure do miss you bro, My mom misses you too

Today July 10 2004, I find myself lost and infront of the computer typing in your guest book again hoping this time my entry will get posted!
Its been over 1 year since I last saw you, since I last spoke to you. well I talk to you everytime I go to sleep, but I there something missing... its not the same. your not there to give me feedback.
I need you, I miss you and I wish that one day soon we could see each other again and laugh all night like old times.
I know that you are here with me at all times. You are watching me and taking care of me. Its been hard not having you around, I have been through some tough times and I wish that you were here to help me out.

My deepest condolences to the entire Cuevas family. I had only heard of Gabe for a while through Jamyka until I finally met him early this year. In that short amount of time he quickly became one of my close friends. He was very funny and the sweetest, most kindest man that I have ever met. Gabe, you will always be in my heart. I was lucky enough to know Gabe through school and the Sheriff's explorers. He was my Sgt for 2 years. I will never forget how much he loved law enforcement and keeping the peace. Ha was an asset to the world and a very good friend. Gabe, you will be sorely missed. RIP

I only met Gabe a few times but from that and the way Nicki spoke of him, he was a great person. He made Nicki so happy and just being around him he had a special way about him. My prayers are with the Cuevas Family and my dear friend, Nicki.

I met Gabe just a couple of months ago. When I spoke with him he was unflappable, full of energy, with a quick, ready smile. He quickly became part of the Team in Milpitas and everyone enjoyed his presence. He is greatly missed. Ed

I am usually one with many words but the loss of you in all our lives leaves me speechless. All i can think about was how funny you were that night on Jamyka's birthday in the parking lot and how you had us all laughing so hard cause you wanted to go to Denny's! Gabe was a very good friend of my son-in-law and daughter, Randy & Rachael Richardson. He worked with my son-in-law in the Newman Police Department. I had the pleasure of being around Gabe only a few times, but each time I saw him, he was always a gentleman. Just last week when I saw him, he stood up when I entered the room and extended his arm to shake my hand. I don’t know of many 23 year old men that would do that. It is obvious that he had a very good upbringing by very kind, good and honorable parents. I cannot even imagine the pain that they are enduring by losing such a wonderful, kind son. My heartfelt love, sympathy and prayers go out to his parents, brother, sister-in-law, niece and Nicki. It was a pleasure and an honor knowing Gabe and he will remain in our hearts forever.
