Manteca, California - It is with profound sadness that we announce the departure of our beloved father, Gabriel Vargas, on May 7, 2023 at the age of 94. Our father was a man of integrity, determination, and sacrifice, laboring the majority of his life in the agricultural fields of California since the age of 12. Gabriel was preceded in death by his loving son Gabriel Vargas, Jr., at the tender age of 18, and then by his beautiful spouse, Natalia Vargas. He is survived by his 8 children: Crispina Manarello, Irma Vargas Peña, Arturo Vargas, Natalia Aguilar, Teresa Hernandez, Gustavo Vargas, Rafael Vargas, and Hector Vargas; 11 grandchildren: Gabriela, Daniela, Paulino, Fernando, Elizabeth, Alexandro, Nyah, Gabriel, Daniel, Ruby, and Samantha; and 4 great grandchildren: Ilan, Nicolás Daniel, and 2 babies in the womb.
With peace in our grieving hearts, we hold fast to the fact that Christ has risen, the soul is eternal, and that death is only a doorway. We invite you to join us in prayer at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel in Modesto on Monday, May 15 from 5pm to 7pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 16 at 10am, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hughson. Please help us pray for our father's eternal peace and reward in heaven. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Catholic Charities (www.ccstockton.org) in memory of Gabriel Vargas.
