George Brownlee Obituary

GEORGE RAY BROWNLEE JAN 21, 1930 - JAN 3, 2010 George passed away January 3rd at Alexander Cohen House with his family and his beloved dog Uno at his side. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Phyllis, Vivian, Maxine, Sandra; brother, Owen; and daughter, Kirsten. He is survived by his twin sister, Gloria Brownlee of Chicago, IL; son, Mitchell Brownlee of Turlock, CA; daughter, Lauren Brownlee of Carson City, NV; grandchildren, Ralissa, Darlene and Lincoln; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. George was born in Chicago, IL to George and Alma Brownlee January 21, 1930. George served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After serving his country, he returned to Chicago and became an elevator contractor. In 1969, he and his family moved to Modesto, CA where he and his former wife Irene opened The Somewhere Else, a popular nightclub im Modesto. In 1975, George returned to Chicago to his former career as an elevator contractor and mechanic, working for Otis Elevator and later, Westinghouse. George retired in 1992 to return to the warmth and sunshine he so loved in Modesto. George was a member of Elevator Constructors Local #2, E. Campus Vitus Chapter 58, The Old Fishermans Club, American Legion, Elks Club and NRA. George was a truly generous and compassionate man who loved his family, pets and friends, he will be missed.
