I worked with Hartsill Clark for 30 years at Modesto High School. I also taught one of his sons. While I disagreed with H.L., as he was commonly known by colleagues, on almost every political issue, I agreed with him on the value of education and of maintaining high standards. On work trips to Seattle and New Mexico for the IB program, we bonded over love for history, novels of Tony Hillerman, football, and beer. He was a fine gentleman of the old school, and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
