Jim Theis, 90, of Turlock, passed away at Turlock Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Jim was born in Colgate, Oklahoma to Alvin and Nellie Theis. He started school in Oklahoma before moving to California. They lived in Tipton before settling in Turlock. Jim joined the Marines and served in Iwo Jima as a part of the company now famous for the statue showing Americans planting our flag. Jim was wounded in the war and awarded a Purple Heart. After the war he met and married the love of his life, Byrdena Gray. They were married in 1951 in Turlock, California. They have been Turlock residents since that time. Jim was a member of the VFW and DAV.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his son Randal Theis. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Byrdena Theis of Turlock, daughter Brenda Theis of Yelm, WA, three siblings: JD Theis of Turlock, Elsie Norris of Boardman, OH, and Dorothy Walker of Green River, WY, one grandchild (Amy Theis), one great-grandchild (Jared Theis), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Allen Mortuary on Monday, December 28th from 4 to 6 pm. Funeral Service will be at Allen Mortuary on Tuesday, Dec. 29th at 11 am. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Turlock Memorial Park. Memorial gifts may be considered for Operation Heal our Patriots, c/o Samaritan's Purse.
