REV. JAY DUPONT AUGUST 29, 1926 - DEC. 27, 2005 Rev. Jay DuPont, 79, of Greeley Hill died Tuesday at Sonora Regional Medical Center.
Rev. DuPont was a native of Washington, North Carolina. After graduating from High School he attended New York University and made a living as a Classical Dancer for 20 years. On Oct. 23, 1957 he was ordained as a Priest at the Soto Zen Temple in Los Angeles. In July of 1969 he founded Vichara Inc., a nonprofit organization in Long Beach, California, that taught meditation and provided meditation facilities. In October 1972 he moved to Greeley Hill and established the Vichara Bodhiyana Buddhist Monastery. He remained at the Monastery for the rest of his life where he served as Abbot and Roshi.
