Joan Smith Obituary
March 23, 1936 - June 11, 2024
Modesto, California - Joan B. Smith, 88, of Modesto CA, passed away peacefully on June 11 surrounded by her loving family.
Joan was born on March 23, 1936, in Tracy, CA and grew up in the San Franciso Bay Area in her youth, she graduated from Menlo Atherton HS and attended Arizona State University. She married Curtis S. Turner in 1955 and moved to Hawaii to raise their three kids: Hope, Momi and Scott. After moving to Modesto, CA in 1969 she married Dennis R. Smith in 1978 joining his family of three, Scott, Jenifer and Christina.
She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother who cherished her large family. She is survived by her husband Dennis of 46 years, sister Betty and brother Jim. Joan was loved by 6 children, 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Joan was very involved in the Memorial Hospital Volunteers Program and was its first president in 1974. She was known for her fun and adventurous spirit, love of working and caring for her garden, enjoyed motorhome travel with friends and had a great sense of humor.
The family would like to thank all those who were so loving, helpful and understanding during her last months.
A private funeral service and Celebration of Life will be held this summer. In lieu of flowers or gifts please make a donation to your local Hospice organization or The Alzheimer's Association.
Joan is now with the Angels on the beaches in heaven and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
