John Anderson Obituary

JOHN D. ANDERSON John D. Anderson, died on January 29, 2008 after a long fight with cancer, at age 55. He is survived by his wife Hilde, children David and Lynn, brothers Ron (Gail) and Don (Karen) and a circle of dear friends. He leaves behind a legacy of caring, family, a sense of humor and perseverance and he will be greatly missed. John graduated in 1971 from Grace Davis High School in Modesto, California and received his BA in Economics from San Diego State University and MBA from Cal State University Sacramento. At Grace Davis John was known as a driven and talented quarterback who proudly led his team to a then school record 7-3 his senior year in the very competitive Central California Conference, earning honorable mention all league honors. He continued to be active in sports, either as a player himself in rec-league basketball, a youth coach or as a volunteering parent in the sports organizations in which his children were involved. His love of sport also included college football and fishing. As a season ticket holder of Husky football for twenty years, he was as relentlessly optimistic about their winning potential as of his ability to catch the next big one'' off of his boat the Bolleke.'' While in college, John started the California chapter of ASIC for business majors, which allowed him to work overseas. This also ignited his passion for travel that took him all over the world, from Sweden to Australia, to Belgium where he met Hilde, New York and Seattle as well as travel in Southeast Asia, Central and South America and a journey from Katmandu to London by overland bus. Stories, memories and friends are active reminders of the places he visited. After a career in banking he showed his entrepreneurial spirit by starting a business brokerage which led him to work in commercial real estate. He loved to laugh and share good times with family and friends and was immensely proud of his children. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 2:00 PM at The Kianna Lodge in Suquamish, WA. Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society. My wife, Charlene, & I returned last night from a trip up to Bainbridge Island, Washington--where we attended the celebration of life memorial service for John. The service was in a beautiful location along the waterfront, in Poulsbo, Washington. The friends & family that attended (whom were originally from Modesto) included: John's younger twin brothers (Don & Ron), Walt Abplanalp, Ames Countryman, and Don MacRitchie. Don MacRitchie gave a wonderful eulogy. Then, Ames & I both shared some of our memories of John. "Andy" was a very special friend--and I am both fortunate, and thankful to have known him for nearly 42 years. The Andersons lived around the corner from our family, in the Northgate Development, in Modesto--and we became friends the summer of 1966, shortly after we moved from Piedmont, California. We shared many good times together, especially at Grace M. Davis High School--and eventually as roommates at California State University, Sacramento--where John earned his undergraduate degree in Economics--and then his Masters in Business Administration. John was one of the groomsmen in my wedding (1981), and we kept in touch by phone & also visited each other over the years. Thank you to Hilde, David, Lynn, Jill, and Don Mac for being such great friends--and for setting up the events that took place over the last few days. As I said during the ceremony, on Saturday, John was the best friend I have had the privilege of knowing--and his laugh, and his love of life, family, and friends will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for the incredible memories!! Happy trails good buddy, and I am looking forward to talking with you, when we meet in Heaven!!

Hilde, David, and Lynn-
Our family is so sorry for your loss. We enjoyed visiting with all of you when we could get together and we will greatly miss John. We will always remember coming to Seattle and spending a few days with all of you and how much fun we had. He was a wonderful person and a person who will be missed. You all are in our thoughts and prayers.

I was surprised to read about John. I also went to Davis and graduated in 1971. I remember John as fun and kind. He had such a broad, productive life. My prayers are now with the family that he made. May they be comforted by the God of all comfort.

John was my first boyfriend at age 15. I have wonderful memories of my high school years with him, and of dancing with him at the 10 year high school reunion. Having known his family for years, I'm so sad about the losses in his family and especially of John.

I was so very sorry to read about John's passing. He and I graduated from Davis together and, in fact, we both attended our 10 year class reunion. We were laughing over the fact that I had a secret crush on him back then!
He was a wonderful guy and my sincere condolences to his family and friends.

My heart fell suddenly when I read the obituary this morning. Great sadness, and deep feelings of grief. The last time I saw John, it was at his brother's service. He was in good spirits considering all the pain in his soul for a lost brother. Truly the moment is now a precious memory, and may he find peace in the arms of the Lord.
