John Carvalho Obituary

JOHN C. CARVALHO 1925 - 2005 79 years old A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 12th for longtime Gustine resident, John C. Carvalho, who passed away last year. The service is planned at Our Lady of Miracles Church on Linden Avenue in Gustine for 12:15 p.m. Saturday.

John was born in Newman on December 3, 1925 and was a resident of Gustine all his life. John, his brother, Clarence, and Mother and Father lived on a dairy throughout his youth and later moved to 6th Street, next door to City Hall.

John attended Gustine Elementary School. He was needed at the dairy and was not able to attend junior high school nor high school.

After his Mother died in the 1970s and his Father in 1981, John and his brother, Clarence, lived together on 6th Street and took many road trips up and down California's Coast. They also enjoyed dining out at Gustine restaurants on a daily basis.

After Clarence's death in December, 1989, John lived alone. He attended Central Valley Regional Center outings including part-time attendance at Kingsview program in Los Banos.

John used to get metal parts from Westside Welding for his passion of metal work. He would file the parts down in his shop, and later in his bedroom, and shape them into stars, some weighing more than two pounds when finished. He proudly wore the stars on his overalls on his daily walks downtown.

The last two years of his life he resided at San Luis Convalescent Hospital in Newman.

He leaves behind family members in San Jose, California and Tulare, California, caretakers, and many friends in the Gustine, Stevinson, and Merced communities.
