Modesto, California - Jon Balinson, 59, died on June 2, 2023, at Doctors Medical Center of Modesto. Throughout his life, Jon enjoyed traveling around the world, and he developed a particular affinity for Japanese culture. He taught himself to speak and read Japanese, visited Japan several times, and was a dedicated practitioner of the martial art of aikido, earning a black belt and teaching classes at Aikido of Modesto. He also worked as a substitute teacher in the local public schools. Jon was a lifelong aficionado of all kinds of technology; he built computers from scratch, learned several programming languages, and received Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer certification. He enjoyed making latte art, was fascinated by tornados and great white sharks, and delighted in good pizza, bagels, and French bread. After his father's death in 2004, Jon stayed with his mother in Modesto to care for her, which he did until her death in 2018.
Jon is survived by his wife, Aimee Rhizza Lustre; his sisters, Sara Goldstein of Merrick, NY, and Andrea Balinson of Brooklyn, NY; his nephews, Gabriel, Daniel, and Oren Goldstein of Merrick, NY; and his niece, Maital Goldstein of Merrick, NY. His funeral was held on June 6 at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson, where he was buried next to his parents, Norman Victor Balinson and Myra Young Balinson.
