La Von Keyes Obituary

La Von Griffin Keyes
Dec. 15, 1919 - April 29, 2017
After a full life of 97 years La Von Keyes passed away after a short illness the evening of April 29th with her loving sons surrounding her as she made her journey home.
La Von was a longtime resident of Modesto. She was born in Lincoln, Nebraska and was educated there. La Von, a registered nurse, enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps on December 9, 1941, the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. She was then Lt. McClatchy, and provided distinctive service to the Army Nurse Corps throughout WW II.   She served at Letterman General Hospital at the Presidio of San Francisco.
Following the war she moved to the Central Valley and was a long time resident of Modesto. For the last nine years she has been a resident at the Bethel Retirement Community.  She was well known for her intelligence and insight into life and its surroundings. Those who knew her well were always reminded of her zest for life, always ready for a party.
She leaves three sons, Eric, Matt (Fernanda) and Mark Griffin, as well as many friends. The family would like to thank all the staff at Bethel Retirement Community for the amazing care they provided during her time there. We would like to express a heart filled thanks to her longtime friend and care giver Trish Smith.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Optimal Hospice of Modesto.
