Lyle Jones Obituary

Lyle B Jones

November 27, 1935 - June 9, 2024

Prescott Valley, Arizona - We are sad to announce the death of Lyle Jones after a brief illness on Sunday June 9th, 2024 in Prescott, AZ.

Lyle Burton Jones was born in Turlock, California on Nov. 27th, 1935. He was the only child of Lyman Beecher Jones, a farmer and dairyman, and Ethel Beatrice Jones (Lowry), a teacher. Lyle grew up on a 20 acre ranch at Mitchell Road and Monte Vista in Turlock, CA.

He went to Central Grammar School, (a two-room school house,) then Turlock High School, and received an AA degree from Modesto Junior College. After high school, Lyle served 3 years (1952-1955) as a Squad Leader in a California National Guard unit based in Healdsburg leaving with the rank of Sergeant E-5.

During his lifetime Lyle pursued many interests. His first ambition, to be a radio announcer, was achieved after earning his operator's license in 1955. His on-air time at KUKI in Ukiah, then KSRO in Santa Rosa, inspired a lifelong enjoyment of rock and roll music. During this time, he also married and became the father of 3 children.

Lyle then immersed himself in learning business management. He was a Bowling Manager at Kentwig Lanes in Vallejo and Millbrae Bowl in Millbrae. From there he became the restaurant supervisor at Playland On The Beach in San Francisco.

His next venture was to become a small business owner himself. After helping start Jake's, a liquor store in Davis and Vacaville, Lyle opened the Liquor Tree stores in Sacramento and Roseville. His proudest career accomplishment was to maintain profitable store operations for 30 years, during which his business acumen led to additional successes in finance and real estate.

He enjoyed fast cars and owned many of them over the years, including several Corvettes, a Pantera, and Nissan 240Zs.

A private memorial service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson, CA.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jessie "Bunny" Jones (Martindale) of Prescott Valley, AZ, his daughter Mikki L Jones-Talbot (Luke) of Davis, CA, sons Richard Jones (Toni) of Dixon, CA, Roger Jones of Vacaville, CA, and his stepson, Kenneth Ashcraft of Louisville, KY, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Phyllis Rander. Lyle was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be missed by many people.

I was very sad to hear the news of Lyle´s passing. I remember fondly the time I asked him to explain the difference between scotch and whiskey. I remember his Pantera, and his fast cars! But the thing I always liked was his voice. Lyle had an incredibly calming voice. Todd and I feel very blessed to have been able to visit with Lyle and Bunny. Our sincerest condolences to Bunny, Miki, Luke, Richard, Toni and the rest of our family.
