MARILYNN LOREE (MORRISON) BRUSH MAY 7, 1921 - JAN 5, 2011 Born in Ireton, Iowa May 7, 1921 to Eileen and Roscoe Morrison, Marilynn and her parents soon moved to Modesto. She attended the old John Muir School on Morris Avenue, the old Roosevelt Junior High School in downtown Modesto and was graduated from Modesto High School and Modesto Junior College. She was a member of the Modesto Symphony Orchestra. Marilynn attended the Academy of Fashion Design in San Francisco and worked there until her marriage in June 1942 to Lt. Elvin W. Brush (USAC). Being the wife of a career Air Force pilot, she found herself moving with her five children all around the country including Florida, Oklahoma, Montana, Nebraska and California. Overseas tours included Hawaii, Turkey and Portugal. When her children had grown, she went back to Stanislaus State University to get her teaching credentials and taught first grade at Franklin Elementary school. Upon her retirement, she moved to McKinleyville in Northern California. Marilynn was a compassionate person, caring about others, a creative cook, agifted hostess, a devoted quilter, an ardent reader, a dedicated volunteer and an accomplished musician. She was an empathetic person whonever met a stranger. She was always concerned with those in need. Active in the First Presbyterian Church of Arcata, she was an ordained Deacon. She loved children. She never thought of them as sub adults but rather as short people with whom you could converse. She was known and cherished for her sense of humor, especially the ironic understatement. Marilynn was preceded in death by her son, Elvin Wayne and is survived by her husband, Elvin W. Brush and children Michael Van Zee, Karlene Larkin, Peter Brush and Jeffry Brush as well as a sister, Pat Morrison and two nephews, Miles Robinson and Dennis Robinson. She was the grandmother of six, great grandmother of nine, and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 14, at 1pm. at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson, California.
