Martha Cool Obituary

MARTHA TATOYAN COOL
APR 9, 1919 - DEC 10, 2017

Martha Cool was born in Selma, California, to John and Rose Tashjian Tatoyan. She moved to Modesto in 1921, graduated from Escalon High School 1935 , Modesto Junior College 1937, and attended Armstrong School of Business in Berkeley, California. She passed away in Woodland, California, where she had been evacuated during Sonoma County's Tubbs Fire.
The week before Pearl Harbor in 1941 she married Leslie Fain Cool, a career officer in the US Coast Guard. After his retirement in 1957 they settled in Modesto to raise their family; Les completed a second career as an agriculture inspector for Stanislaus County.
Martha worked with her brother John Tatoyan at the La Core Tire Company (subsequently The Tire Store) from 1959 to 1976. She and Les were avid bowlers and were members of Spring Creek Golf and Country Club. Between 1976 and 1989, Martha hit 5 holes-in-one. Martha was also a frequent bridge player and traveler with her large circle of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years. She is survived by her three daughters and their families: Leslie & David Hastings of Hampden, Mass., granddaughter Lisa & Burt Rosenman, great granddaughters Leah and Hannah Rosenman; Jean Cool & Tom McQuaid of Sebastopol, Calif., grandsons Matt and Nick & Erin McQuaid; and Susan Cool & William Charlwood of Tijarafe, Spain, and grandson Hudson Bloom. She is also survived by 3 nephews and a niece.
There will be no service at the request of the deceased. In keeping with her wishes, her ashes will be scattered. In lieu of flowers the family request all donations be made in her name to Modesto Gospel Mission, PO Box 1203, Modesto 95353-1203, or the charity of your choice.

I worked for Martha's brother John for almost nineteen years and when I became a store manager, Martha helped save my life as there was so much to know and Martha always had the answers I needed. We have stayed in contact and I remember the last phone call with her last year. Betty and I will never forget her. It was great to have her as a friend. Bob and Betty Barnes

Martha & Marge & Henry!

December 15, 2017

Girls -- and families: Martha was such a special person to our families! For nearly 40 years bridge, travel, and golf created an everlasting bond. Martha was warm, welcoming, and got great delight from her family. We especially enjoyed our latter visits when Henry would give her big hugs! She will be missed! Sincerely, Marge, Marla & Peggy
