Matthew Simonton Obituary
July 2, 1976 - October 24, 2021
Riverbank, California - Matthew Thomas Simonton, age 45, passed away October 24, 2021 in Riverbank, California. He was born July 2, 1976 in Modesto California to Martha and Richard Simonton of Riverbank. Matthew is survived by both parents, a brother David Simonton(Staci), nephews William, Andrew, Lucas and Nicholas, uncles, an aunt and several cousins.
Matthew graduated from Beyer High School in 1994, where he played both water polo and basketball. He earned his bachelor's degree from UCLA in 1998 and later received his teaching credential from CSU Sacramento. Matthew began his career in Modesto City Schools District, where he taught First, Second and Third grades during his 20 years at Fairview Elementary School
Growing up Matthew had many opportunities to travel abroad and to many of the states. He loved talking about these trips, especially trips to Colorado and Idaho to visit grandparents. His last trip was to Hawaii with his parents in order to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
Matthew loved family and always enjoyed getting together with everyone for the holidays. With friends and family, he would always share his love for all types of music and his views on current events.
Matthew was an avid UCLA fan and attended many of the Bruin's football games throughout college and after graduation. He loved watching college and professional football and basketball and for many years he participated in Fantasy Football with work friends.
Matthew was a sweet noble and funny person with a good heart. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to watch funny sitcoms and funny movies. He will be missed by many.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday November 17 in Heritage Chapel at Lakewood Memorial Park 900 Santa Fe Avenue, Hughson CA 95326. Viewing will be from 12 noon until 1:00 prior to the service.
Matthew's parents would like to express thanks to the wonderful help and care given by Community Hospice, Modesto CA. If desired friends may make contributions in Matthew's name to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto CA 95356 or to a charity of their choice.

I had the pleasure to work with Matthew a couple of years at Fairview. He was a quiet, friendly person who enjoyed his students. He was an asset to the teaching profession and will be remembered forever.

Martha, we worked together several years ago at Walter White Elementary and I can remember you sharing about your sons. I was so sorry to see you have lost one of your precious boy's.
