Michael Vela Obituary

Michael Gordon
Vela
Sept 9, 1966 - Oct 3, 2017
Michael Gordon Vela, of Tracy, passed away at age 51 after a short battle with colon caner. Michael was born in Modesto and grew up in Patterson. After graduating from Patterson High School, he then worked alongside his father in construction and later continued in the industry with Shea Homes as Production Supervisor. He also worked as a financial advisor with World Financing/Transamerica where he made many friends and was highly respected. Michael's passion was his relationship with Christ Jesus and where he built his principles. Later on he would accept a full time position with Christ Community Church as Youth Pastor. His faith guided his words, actions and deeds that anyone could say he was an inspiration in their lives.
Michael is survived by the love of his life and best friend of 26 years, Monica (Dias) Vela and 3 sons, Brandon, Spencer and Caden. He leaves behind his father, Hector Vela and sister, Yvonne Erwin and her husband Lance; his niece, Carolyn Treshler and 2 nephews, Michael Jon Treshler and Austin McComb. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Vela and sister, Priscilla Vela. All of whom he loved very much.
A celebration of Michael's life will be held Fri, Oct 20, 2017 at 10 AM. Christ Community Church, 3242 Carver Rd, Modesto, CA 95350.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Awana program at Christ Community Church and/or donate your time in reading God's word and spread The Good News - he would have wanted that.

I learned of Michael's passing through our mutual friend Bill. I didn't know Michael had cancer! Michael use to tell me on the jobsite when I was having a hard time or something going in my life. He would first pray and then say that line from The Lion King..."Coomamatata"
(I don't know if that's the right spelling) Since then after knowing he's gone home, I often think of Michael and what a great friend and a brother in Chrst he was. Michael and I work together for SheaHomes in Dublin, CA before I moved to Colorado in 2002. We would often talk about the Lord and His faithfulness, sharing scriptures and praying for each other. We also talked about our home in Heaven and the coming of the Lord in the clouds to take His bride home, especially after 911. I know we will all see Michael someday and spend eternity together, but it's still hard that he's no longer here! "Miss you buddy, see you soon"

I just learned of Mike's passing this evening, I'm so upset having heard the news. Mike was a great guy and I consider myself so lucky and fortunate to have known him, though it had been such a long time since we had spoken to each other.

I had a dream about Michael recently that started me on the path to search for him. The dream was of the afternoon we spent in my mother's back yard playing a game that involved two paddles and a tennis ball on a rope attached to a pole. Our mothers were friends from Lamesa, Texas and Michael and Gloria came to Dallas to visit Tony Evans church. We had a great time just goofing off. We spoke a few times after the trip and I have wondered often what had become of him. My mom did not know of Gloria's passing either. Our prayers are with all of you. Thankful that Michael was rooted in Christ. I wish our families had kept in touch. I would love to connect, you can find me on face book under Liz Musquiz.
