Raymond Scroggs Obituary

Raymond Joseph Scroggs
December 9, 1920 - December 9, 2013
Ray, a long time resident of Oakdale, went home to be with The Lord. As the unique person he was, he departed on his birthday, December 9, 2013 in the loving care of his family.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 Sunday, December 15, 2013 at River Oak Grace Church in Oakdale. A viewing is scheduled at 3:00 prior to the service.
Beloved husband of Dorothy Scroggs who preceded him in death in 1984.  Later, Ray married Ruth Scroggs who also preceded him in death in 2007.
Ray was the loving father of three daughters.  Karen Pelton, deceased; Lynne Dee Chimento, Paradise, CA; and Connie Taylor, Medford, OR. Beloved grandfather of David, Krista, Jodie, Mattie, Zachariah, and Natalie.  Great grandfather to Caden, Jensen and Brydon of Idaho; Joshua and Sarah of Washington; Gideon, Elaina and Braelyn of Oregon.
Born in Denver, CO. to Jesse and Nellie Scroggs, he spent his young life on a homestead in the Rockies hunting, fishing, skiing, and horseback riding.  He continued to enjoy backpacking, fly fishing and skiing throughout his life.  He shared these endeavors with friends and family.
Ray served in the 7th Mountain Division as a mountain climbing instructor during WW II.  Following the war, he enjoyed skiing the Alps with the All Army Ski Team.  His sense of adventure also led to his travels in Mexico, Europe, Israel, China, Hawaii and Alaska.  He was a builder and master carpenter.  His love of agriculture and horticulture was reflected through his landscaping, orchards, and ranching exploits.
Ray's greatest love in life was his Lord and Savior, Jesus. Christ.  He freely shared the message of salvation, "that whosoever calls on the name of The Lord shall be saved."  Over the years, Ray served the local church in many capacities and gave generously to support the local church, missionary work, the poor and needy, and his World Vision "children."
Ray was much loved and will be greatly missed by friends and family.
In place of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that those desiring to make a memorial donation as an expression of love for Ray do so by writing a check to National Christian Foundation (Please note on check memo: Pelton Family Fund #919881).  Mail check to: National Christian Foundation Seattle Market Place Tower, Penthouse A, 2025 First Ave., Seattle, WA 98121-3125 This foundation account was established on behalf of Ray's special needs granddaughter, Sarah who is in need of a handicapped van at this time.

Doug and I knew Ray and Dorothy for years. Karen and Lynn Dee used to babysit for us and it was Lynn Dee that introduced us to Mac and Cheese and I used to play their upright piano. My maiden name is Barnhill.

Ray was a wonderful caring person. He often did kind things for people and
never mentioned them. He will be missed by many. Those that were fortunate to know him know he is happy and at peace. God Bless his family and help them through this time off loss.

Ray was our beloved neighbor, friend and mentor for over 23 years. He lived his faith and was always willing to lend a helping hand or a prayer whenever needed. We will miss you dear friend and we rejoice in having had you in our lives.
