Richard A. Uhrhammer

RICHARD A. UHRHAMMER MAY 1920 ~ OCT 2010 Richard Dick'' Uhrhammer, 90, of Ballico, passed away at Doctors Medical Center on Saturday. He was born to Otto and Alma Uhrhammer in Mountain View, California. Richard graduated from Mt. View High School and got his accounting degree at San Jose State, where he was a star basketball player. After graduating from Kings' Point Merchant Marine Academy, he became an officer and served on oil tankers during World War II. Richard married Lura Beth Magneson and after the war they moved to Ballico, where they spent the rest of their lives farming. They raised three children and farmed sweet potatoes, almonds and walnuts. Richard was an active member of the community. He was a founding member of both the Delhi-Ballico Lions' Club and The Northern Merced Hulling Association; a Silver Life Master Bridge player, and an avid tennis player. Richard also served on the Ballico Recreation Dept., was a softball coach, volunteer fireman, and active supporter of the Boy Scouts. He regularly played golf until a few months ago, and in years past played softball with the Ballico Green Hornets. He loved to play Scrabble'' with his children, read, and work crossword puzzles. He also travelled the world, visiting nearly 100 countries . Richard is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Lura Beth Uhrhammer. He is survived by his three children: Dr. Robert (Joan) Uhrhammer of Albany, CA, Susan (Douglas) Brower of Folsom, CA, and Peggy (Mike)Gibson of Fair Oaks, CA, eightgrandchildren, three great grandchildren, and his dear companion and bridge partner, Faye Salmon. A Funeral Service will be held at Allen Mortuary on Wednesday, November 10th, 1:00pm with burial to follow at Turlock Memorial Park. Memories and condolences are welcome at www.allenmortuary.com.
