RUTH HELENE OLBERG JAMIESON JULY 14, 1917 - AUG. 13, 2006 Ruth Helene Olberg Jamieson of Modesto peacefully entered into rest at Memorial Medical Center on August 13, 2006 after a brief illness. Her beloved family was at her bedside.
Ruth was born in Chicago, IL in 1917 to Esther Christensen Olberg and Gustav Martin Olberg and, along with her beloved older sister, Dorothy, became the fourth member of a loving and close-knit family.
Ruth attended Broadview Academy in LaGrange, IL and Union College in Lincoln, NE. Shortly after, she met the love of her life, David James Jamieson (Jim). They were joined in marriage on June 12, 1943 and moved to southern California so that Jim could complete his pre-med studies at La Sierra College and then pursue his MD degree at Loma Linda University School of Medicine (known at that time as College of Medical Evangelists). Their first child, David Martin Jamieson, was born in Loma Linda in 1950.
After Jim's residency in Bakersfield, CA, they moved north to McCloud, CA where Jim established his first medical practice. Their second child, Sherilyn Dorothy Jamieson, was born in McCloud in 1953.
Largely because of their desire to provide their children with a Christian education, Ruth and Jim moved to Modesto in 1957. The family was again blessed with the arrival of their second son, Robert Douglas Jamieson, in 1958.
Even while raising her children, managing a lovely home for the family and standing proudly by her beloved husband, Ruth was also a devoted and vibrant contributor to her community and her church. She was a lifelong, faithful Seventh-Day Adventist and a member of the Modesto Central Seventh-Day Adventist Church for nearly 50 years. She sang in the church choir for many years and acted as PR secretary for the congregation. Ruth could always be counted on to hostess celebrations of new life and marriages. She also held many church committee meetings in her home.
Ruth constantly sought out oppor- tunities to help those in need of help. She frequently personally provided or found work for many who needed assistance. Ruth was actively involved in myriad charities in- cluding the Stanislaus County Chapter of the National Auxiliary to the Loma Linda University School of Medicine, Friends Outside, The American Heart Association and the SDA Senior Fellowship.
She was and will remain admired, cherished and loved by many from all walks of life and leaves behind a legacy of unfaltering grace, love, faith, generosity and caring for all of God's children.
Ruth is survived by her loving family, including her children, David Martin Jamieson and Robert Douglas Jamieson of Modesto, Sherilyn Jamieson Tye of Stockton, daughters-in-law Ginevra Jamieson and Sally Jamieson, son-in-law James Tye and grandchildren Lauren Jamieson, Sarah Jamieson and Andrew Jamieson, as well as her faithful canine companion, Oscar.
She was predeceased by Dr. David J. Jamieson, her devoted husband of 61 years, and her loving sister, Dorothy Dewald.
The family wishes to express special gratitude to Sadhana Rorabaugh, Ruth's devoted caregiver, who faithfully and lovingly attended to her daily needs over the past year. She holds a special place in each of our hearts.
We also wish to express our heartfelt appreciation and love to all of Ruth's dear friends who stood so loyally by her during her life and finally through her illness.
Memorial services will be held at Modesto Central Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 17th & H Streets on Saturday, August 19 at 3 p.m.
Remembrances may be made to Loma Linda Ronald McDonald House, 11365 Anderson St., Loma Linda, CA 92354 (909) 558-8300, www.llrmh.org.
