Viola Richard Obituary

VIOLA FLORENCE RAMSDEN RICHARD
June 25, 1926 – May 18, 2016
Viola Florence Ramsden Richard passed away shortly before her 90th birthday, on May 18, 2016. Viola was born June 25, 1926 and was raised by her beloved grandmother, Minnie Carabajal.  At age 18, Viola ventured away from home to San Diego, CA, where she met her husband, Farley Richard.
They would later move to the Bay Area and raise four girls – Carole, Kathleen, Janet and Nancy.  Viola followed in the footsteps of her grandmother, a small business owner, and ran her own beauty salon for many years to help support the family.  Later, she would take classes in medical terminology to learn a new skill while employed at Land Park Pharmacy in Sacramento and then work in retail until age 70.
She enjoyed travel and would visit San Diego with her husband in his retirement as well as go abroad with her daughters and later travel with friends.  She and Dad enjoyed the arts and good music and they instilled that love in their children.
Viola's mission in life was to be the best mother to her daughters and it was her greatest accomplishment.  She was always there for her daughters but taught them to be independent and self-sufficient.  Her happiest moments were spending time with her daughters and later caring for her grandchildren; her great grandchildren also brought her joy.
Viola is predeceased by her husband Farley, their eldest daughter, Earle Eugenie and one brother, Thomas.
She is survived by her four daughters, Carole Richard, Kathleen Benetiz, Janet Roche Moreno (Carlos) and Nancy Richard; four grandchildren, Gia Brack (Charles), Heshla Paciny, Joelle Faught (Stacy), Jacob Roche and five great grandchildren, Viviana, Sergio, Mia, Naomi and Eliseo as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held on June 1 at 1:00 pm in the Alexander Cohen Hospice House Chapel, 2201 Euclid Ave., Hughson, CA.
Special thanks to Dr. R. J. Heck, caregivers, Barbara Bingham, Anita Kumari, Christine Miranda and former caregiver Vicki Glatt as well as the Community Hospice team.
Memorial contributions are appreciated to Community Hospice Foundation, 4368 Spyres Rd., Modesto, 95356 and Modesto Symphony Orchestra, 911 13th St., Modesto, 95350 or St. Luke's Family Practice, 1700 McHenry Ave., Modesto, 95350.
