HERBERT HORTON Obituary

Herbert W. "Herb" Horton III, age 75, a 6-year resident of Bullhead City, Ariz., passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2012, in Bullhead City, Ariz.

Herb was born on December 8, 1936, in Waukegan, Ill., and raised in Antioch, Ill., where he attended school. He helped his father with his milk delivery business before joining the US Marine Corp in 1954.

After returning home from the service, he went to work at the Lake County, Ill., Sheriff's department, later becoming a Sargent. Upon leaving the sheriff's department, he went to work as a production field officer in the High Speed Labeling and Addressing Industry. He worked for Xerox in the development of New Technology in Machinery to read UPC coding and the use of Ink Jet spraying codes on nearly all food products.

Herb retired in 1999, moving to Wisconsin. In 2006, he and his wife Jacquelyn moved to Bullhead City, Ariz., where he enjoyed donating to the casinos in Laughlin, Nev., and never having to shovel snow again.

Herb will be greatly missed by his wife, Jacquelyn, and his family. Herb was so glad to have "sparky" (his scooter) these last couple of months as his means of transportation.

Herb was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Makunas Horton; father, Herbert W. Horton II; brother, Terry Horton; and in laws, George and Albina Burda Tesar.

Herb leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Jacquelyn Tesar Horton of Bullhead City, Ariz.; daughter and son-in-law Kelly (Brian) Johnson-Gadient of Soldier Grove, Wis.; son, Herbert "Spike" (Nicole Troedel) Horton of Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers; one step-sister; one step-mother; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and his loving cat, "Smokey."

A warm felt thank you to all the doctors and the wonderful staff at WARMC. A very special thank you to his miracle doctor, Dr. Jim Bates.>/i>

Herb will be cremated at Dimond & Sons Silver Bell Chapel and be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

Jackie, Kelly, & Spike I am so sorry for your loss, Herb was a great guy and so much fun to be around. He was a big help to me when I had the Gas and Towing business in Antioch where he would help out when needed. Jackie, if you need anything please call, I wish I could have been there for you like you and Herb were for me when Gayle passed away. R.I.P. my friend you will be sadly missed by all that knew you.

It was my privilege to be a very close friend of Herb's through our high school years and while he was in the USMC. I will always remember the good times we had together. He was a wonderful person and I'm happy he decided to spend the last years of his life close by. His friends will miss him.
