JOHN KERN Obituary

John C. Kern, age 67, a 33-year resident of Bullhead City, Ariz., passed away at home peacefully in his sleep on Monday, March 4, 2013.

John was born in Elmhurst, Ill. on October 19, 1945 to Jack and Corrine Kern. In 1957 the family moved to San Diego, Calif. After graduation from Grossmont High School in La Mesa, Calif., John joined the Air Force serving in Germany. After discharge, he worked as a printer in San Diego and Hawaii where his daughter, Alethia, was born.

John loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing all of his life. He was a skilled marksman with many awards and medals. After moving to Bullhead City in 1980, John worked in security at the Crystal Palace and the Colorado Belle. He went to work for the Riverside Casino in 1986 in security and soft count until his retirement in 2011.

John was preceded in death by both his parents, Jack and Corrine Kern.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jan Kern; daughter, Alethia (Steve) Kern-Ussher; granddaughter, Camille Ussher of Camino, Calif.; stepdaughter, Julie (Tim) Tolley; step-grandsons, Brett and Aiden of Bullhead City; sisters, Candace (David) Kern-Tweeton of Fort Mohave, and Laurie Vaughn of Bullhead City; and brother, Lawrence Kern of Temecula, Calif.

John will be missed by not only his family, but by the many friends he has made over the years both in the San Diego area and in Bullhead City, at work, on the river, and at the gun shops in the area.

Since he requested no memorial, the family suggests donations be made in John's name to the National Rifle Association (NRA), P.O. Box 420648, Palm Coast, Fla. 32142-0648, in which he was a lifelong member.

I want to send my sympathy to John's family. I am so shocked and sorry to see that he has passed away. He was a great boss and a wonderful person. I enjoyed working with him and knowing him. He could always make us laugh. My prayers are with the family today and in the days to come.
May the Good Lord keep him in the palm of His Hand.
