THOMAS LANPHIER Obituary

THOMAS G. LANPHIER

Thomas G. Lanphier, age 74, of Hinsdale, Ill. passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2017. He was born in Joliet, Ill. on November 15, 1942.

Tom was a Marine who served his country proudly during the Vietnam War. While being stationed in Long Beach, Calif. Tom met Karen (nee DeBard), married in 1965 and had two sons. Tom and Karen moved to Mohave Valley, Ariz. where they raised their sons and made lifetime friends. Tom was an avid hunter, little league coach, and a Boy Scout leader and will be remembered by many from the "Valley". Tom worked for Southern Cal Gas as a natural gas technician in Needles, Calif.

Tom and Karen divorced in 1984. Shortly after the divorce Tom moved to Clarendon Hills, Ill. where he eventually met, fell in love with and married Barbara Huey (nee Banaszek) in 1985. Tom enjoyed bowling leagues with friends, special trips to Door County, Wis. with Barbara, celebrating his wife's Polish heritage and raising teenage children. Tom worked for Hastings Industries as an HVAC technician until he retired.

After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with Barbara, playing with his ten grandchildren, hunting with his sons, gardening, watching the Cubs and he especially enjoyed his relationships with family and friends.

Tom was the beloved husband of Barbara J. Lanphier, (nee Banaszek); loving father of Erik (Robin) and Ed (Heather) Lanphier; dear stepfather of Jennifer (Chris) Rosenberg and Brian (Maria) Huey; dearest brother of Richard (the late Loretta) Lanphier, Don (the late Anne) Lanphier, the late Shirley (Russell) Lundstrom, and Kay (Rich) Rog; cherished grandfather of ten; and fond uncle of many.

A private family interment will be held at Clarendon Hills Cemetery in Darien, Ill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Alzheimer's Disease Research and Education at Bright Focus Foundation, www.brightfocus.org will be appreciated.

I just found out and I am sad to hear of Tom's passing. Tom was a field serivce engineer for Hastings Industries while I was an in-House service engineer. I will remember all the phone conversations we had regarding issues of the day of troublesome heating units and/or installation problems that he resolved for "his" Hastings Industries customers. Customers mostly across Illinois, Indiana, and some over the nation. He was very prompt and reliable for the company. I remember his good humor and good nature. He will be greatly missed. I was blessed working with Tom. May God bless his family and friends.
