Gilbert Schrader Obituary

Gilbert Terrance Schrader, age 70, of LaSalle, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 31, 2020, at ProMedica Regional hospital of Monroe surrounded by his loving family.
Born July 26, 1950, in Monroe. He was one of four children of the late Gaylord and Helena (Goda) Schrader. Gil graduated from Monroe High School in 1968 where he was a proud member of the cross country and track and field teams. After graduation, Gil made his living as a commercial roofer using his unique talent for slate work. As a member of Roofers Local 134, he spent over 30 years working for various companies eventually retiring from Fred Christen & Sons Company in 2004.
Gil's main passion was being outdoors. He enjoyed being up north at his cabin in Lewiston, MI. Where he would hunt or fish with friends and family when the season was right. Gil also enjoyed his daily trips to the coffee shop and woodworking in his spare time. Most importantly, Gil enjoyed spending his quality time with his family and friends and they equally enjoyed his sense of humor and willingness to help. He will be deeply missed and cherished in the hearts of his loved ones.
Gil's first marriage was to Kay (Seitz) Herndon. He was then previously married to Donna (Theisen) Carpenter. Later in life, he met Jeanne Wilson at Hi-Lite Grocery Store in Monroe. They were dearest companions for each other for 12 years before his passing.
Beloved father of Stephanie (Jeffrey) Kennedy, Kimberly (Daniel) Sieler, and Bill (Michelle) Schrader. Loving grandfather of Alexander Sieler, Samantha Kennedy, Jordin Kennedy, and Joshua Kennedy, with another grandchild on the way. Great grandfather of Harper Kennedy. Dear brother of Sandy (Don) Seitz, Beth (Arthur A.) Sconochia, and Joan Kennon. Also survived by a son-in-law: John Bonta.
Preceded in death by his daughter: Leigh Bonta; parents: Gaylord and Helena Schrader; and brother-in-law: Pete Kennon.
Everyone is invited to a visitation on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at Rupp Funeral Home from 1:00 to 7:00 PM with a funeral service starting at 7 PM. Officiating is Deacon Mike Stewart. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe for immediate family only due to current restrictions.
