Jacqueline Couture was born in Wyandotte, Michigan, on May 27, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Couture and Elsie (Czirr) Couture and was raised in a home with six siblings. Jackie attended Wyandotte Schools, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1948.
She married Richard Gedelian on September 4, 1954. They raised their family in the Catholic church, being members of St. Charles Borromeo in Newport. Jackie was attentive to the needs of her husband and children as a homemaker. She was also the main caregiver to her daughter, Dana, throughout her life. The couple would share more than sixty years of marital bliss before his passing on December 14, 2014. She spent her days with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who adored her.
Jackie was well loved. She had a great sense of humor and was fun to be around. Her children, grandchildren, and family would gather at her home in Newport where cherished memories were made. She enjoyed the time she spent with her family especially poker nights with her siblings and extended family. Also, Friday night Bingo at St. Anne Catholic Church in Monroe with her sister. Over the years, many road trips were made to in Ludington with her family where her games of chance extended to casino excursions. She was fortunate that her brother-in-law, Orley, would take her since everyone else considered the outings too lengthy.
Jacqueline "Jackie" Gedelian, age 90, of Newport, passed away at 1:05 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2021, at ProMedica Monroe Skilled Care and Rehab, where she had been a resident since 2016.
In addition to her parents, her passing was preceded by a daughter, Dana Gedelian; and an infant son.
To cherish her memory, she leaves two daughters, Jill Gedelian of Monroe and Mary Jo (James) Ryan of Newport; one son, Richard (Joyce) Gedelian of LaSalle; two brothers, four sisters; seven grandchildren, Joseph, Jaclyn, Jennifer, Lane (Andrew), Chelsea, Richard, Lauren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may gather from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe, 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. She will lie in state from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at St. Charles Catholic Church, 8125 Swan Creek Road, Newport, Michigan 48166. The Mass of the Resurrection officiated by Father Henry Rebello will take place at 10:00 a.m. Procession will follow to the church cemetery for burial.
