Joseph Victor DuBay, age 95, of Monroe, went home to be with the Lord at 1:55 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2021, at the IHM Senior Living Community.
Born July 16, 1925, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Joseph C. and Mary Leona (Stoffel) DuBay. Victor attended Calvert Hall High School in Baltimore, Maryland, graduating with the class of 1943. He also attended Center College, Kentucky, where he studied Engineering. Victor served his country honorably in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II from 1943 to 1945 as a Navigator. During his time in the military, he trained well over a thousand navigators who went on to navigate flights during the war. After returning home, he married his beloved wife, Helen Irene Britain, on May 31, 1947, at Holy Family Church in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Sadly, she preceded him in death on October 16, 2015. Victor worked for the Wayne County Road Commission from 1950 until 1970, McNeely, Lincoln & Shrader Consulting Firm from 1970 until 1976, and finally for himself as a Civil Engineer from 1976 until his retirement in 1998. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and traveling.
Victor was a member of the 3rd Order of Mary, St. Vincent DePaul Society and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He also volunteered at the IHM Senior Living Community and Angela Hospice.
To cherish his memory, Victor leaves four sons, James (Kathleen) DuBay of Monroe, Richard DuBay of Janesville, Wisconsin, William (Mary) DuBay of Sterling Heights, Michigan, and Donald (Nancy) DuBay of Glendale Heights, Illinois; one sister, Harriette Cahoon of Baltimore, Maryland; thirteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Steven DuBay in 2002; one sister, Natalie Comer; and one brother, Joseph C. DuBay.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Road, Monroe, MI 48161, where the Knights of Columbus will lead the Rosary and Litany at 6 p.m. He will lie in state at 10 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church on Thursday, March 11, 2021, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by the church pastor, Rev. Fr. Kishore Battu. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan, at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2021. Military honors will be under the auspices of the United States Air Force.
