CONSTANCE BRUST Obituary

CONSTANCE BRUST Connie Brust passed away peacefully at home at the age of 93, surrounded by her family on July 29, 2025. A Celebration of Life service will be held on September 6, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church in Clitherall. Constance Louise Brust was born in New Ulm to William and Grace Muesing. Growing up, she would often help her dad at his drugstore counting pills and making the best ice cream shakes in town for her friends. Little did she know, one of those friends would be her future husband, Charles! They had known each other as youngsters and later became high school sweethearts. They were the cutest couple at the junior/senior prom in 1949. Connie went on to school at University of Minnesota to study nursing. While there, she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and made many lifelong friends. Connie and Charles were married on December 28, 1952, and moved to Montevideo where she worked at the Montevideo Hospital as a nurse and Charles taught biology at the high school. She became the school nurse in 1957. At the high school, she really got things going, not only putting on a few bandaids and taking care of students but revving up school spirit with her positive attitude and effervescent personality. She literally touched the lives of thousands, not only at the junior and senior high schools but also, around town. Everyone knew "Mother Brust"! Whether it was cheering at games, delivering balloons to add a smile to someone's day or giving hugs, she always was there to help. She ran the AFS Club, Pep Club, organized homecoming parades, decorated students' lockers on days of big events and was named WCCO Radio Good Neighbor for all of the great things she did for the school and community. She was also active with local chapter of PEO for 50 years, played a lot of bridge with the ladies and loved to entertain. At home, she loved to garden and had what you would call a "green thumb"...beautiful roses and a multitude of perennials. She loved her dogs over the years, especially the black labs. She had unending spirit and energy for everyone she came in touch with during her career. They built a cottage in 1970 on Cliterall Lake and spent many glorious summers there and moved to the lake in 1993. From there, she again immersed herself in the schools and community of Battle Lake as she had in Montevideo. Every kid and parent knew Mother Brust. They loved to attend all the events at the school - games, concerts and plays. Charles preceded her in death in March of 1983 after an amazing 61 years of marriage. She is survived by her children Charles Brust of Arlington, Texas, Eric and Cheryl Brust of Chelsea, Mich., and Amy Hassanzedah of Bloomington, her grandchildren Erin, Tucker, Emilee, Mika and Zane and great-grandchildren Skylar and Cassie. Thank you for everyone's love and support over the years. We carry with us many treasured memories spent with mom!

I loved that `Momma Brust´ would let the students help paint/decorate her VW Bug during Homecoming. She was an amazing person!
