CURTIS NORDAUNE Obituary

CURTIS NORDAUNE Curtis Nordaune of Montevideo passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 92. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on October 17, 2025, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Baxter in rural Montevideo. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church on the day of the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Curtis Jerome Nordaune was born on May 12, 1933, in Montevideo to Jenny (Soma) and Elvin Nordaune. He graduated from Montevideo High School in 1952. He attended St. Olaf College for a short time and then farmed with his family. On August 9, 1964, Curtis married Betty Pederson of Starbuck. They were happily married for over 35 years until her passing in March 1999. Curtis started work with Lac qui Parle Soil and Water Conservation District in April 1957. After seven years with the district, he had a chance to go to Windom and work with the Soil Conservation Service. In 1971 he moved back to Madison as a SCS soil conservation technician. He "retired" from SCS/NRCS in April 1994 but immediately began work part time with SWCD. Throughout his lifetime, Curtis volunteered on many committees and boards in church and in the community. Curtis was a lifelong member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Baxter. During his most active years, he taught Sunday School, led Bible studies and served on Church council in multiple roles. Curtis loved to travel. He and Betty traveled to Europe in 1995 with their close friends, the Andersons. After Betty's passing, Curtis continued to travel and went on 11 cruises to six continents. His travel companion on many of his cruises was Conrad Sandbakken. On one of these cruises, they traveled and flew around the world. Besides traveling, his favorite pastimes included visiting with friends and family, reading, and playing cards. Curtis is survived by numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty, a stillborn son in 1966, and his brothers, Harlis, David and Marvin. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Baxter Cemetery. Blessed be his memory. Arrangements are with Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home of Montevideo.
