Alvin Wagner Obituary

Alvin “Clay� Wagner, age 74, went to be with the Lord on March 8, 2005 in Palo Alto. Born in Whitehead N.C. he joined the U.S. Army in 1949. He served in the 2nd Infantry Div. in the Korean War. Clay was a POW for three years in Korea, known as “SAM� the camp barber. As a member of the Army Rifle Team, Clay received many medals. Clay was assigned to Fort Ord as a Drill Sgt.. Clay was medically retired as a (SFC) with the U.S. Army, after 12 yrs of distinguished service. Clay was a passionate American, civic minded, and a founding father of the City of Marina, CA. Wagner Hall is a Marina civic building that bears his name. Clay's dedication to his country, veterans and family continued all his life. He was active in numerous veterans organizations. At his home in Marina, CA. American Legion Post 694 was formed. He was American Legion Commander and District Commander. Clay is survived by his wife of 16 years Ruthann Wagner, four daughters from his previous wife Frances Wagner; daughters Linda Casas of Prunedale CA, Patricia Valdez of Redwood City CA, Wanda Feeney of Ripon CA, and Barbara Wagner of Everett WA. Clay was the stepfather to Christopher Smith, and Robann Smith of Salinas CA, and Rebecca Cote of Riverside CA. He has 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren with the 1st great-great grandchild on the way. A family service will be at the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, CA March 18, 2005 with Full Military Honors. A Celebration of Clay's Life will be at American Legion Post 694 in Marina Ca. On Saturday, March 19, 2005 at 1pm In lieu of flowers please send all donations to C/O MONTEREY CYPRESS POST AMERICAN LEGION AUXILLARY UNIT 694 P.O. BOX 565 MARINA, CALIFORNIA 93933.

Ruthann and Family, I'm sorry to hear about your loss. My parents just told me about Mr. Wagner. I always called him Mr. Wagner. My sister and I lived in Monterey and my parents lived next door in Marina. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the family. Take care.
