Brian Hoag Obituary

Brian Keith Hoag
April 2, 1960 ~ May 14, 2010

CARMEL VALLEY - Brian was born on the Monterey Peninsula, where he lived happily for his entire life. He passed away quietly of natural causes at age 50.
Brian attended schools in Pacific Grove and Carmel, graduating from Carmel High School. Brian owned and operated several businesses, culminating in his occupation of Artisan Contractor. Armed with an extensive array of skills, he was in constant demand.
Brian married Rene Jackson and together they had beloved son, Travis Hoag, who was the light of his life. A devoted son, Travis is currently a sophomore at Monterey Peninsula College. He recently completed a rigorous, six-month training at the Fire Academy to prepare him for his career as a firefighter. He intends to complete his education at CSUMB.
Brian's passions included the Miami Dolphins, NASCAR racing, boating, and camping. Brian was the king of barbeques and the undisputed captain of houseboats on family vacations. To his son's friends and his many nieces and nephews, Brian was never Mr. Hoag, but always "Uncle Brian." Unpretentious and earthy, Brian was a smiling presence to be reckoned with, quick with a funny story or good-natured teasing.
Distilling the essence of Brian's soul is easy - he loved people. He was a good man. Brian was generous with his time, his hands and heart, and would drop whatever he was doing to aid anyone in need. He loved his family greatly. He was always available to offer advice, and was a wonderful and helpful son to his mother. Brian leaves behind a legacy of loving kindness.
He is survived by son, Travis Dillon Hoag; mother, Joanne Monroe; sister, Debbie Hoag Edwards; brother-in-law, Tracy Edwards; brother, Dan Hoag; sister-in-law, Susan Hoag; brother, Mathew Hoag; stepbrother, Richard Monroe; stepsister, Alexia Monroe; former wife and lasting friend, Rene Jackson; and nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by father, Kenneth (Kenny) Hoag; stepfather, H. William (Bill) Monroe; and stepbrother, James Monroe.
A Celebration of Life barbeque will be held on June 12, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Trail and Saddle Club at 85 E. Garzas Rd. in Carmel Valley. In lieu of flowers, condolences are welcomed in the form of contributions to the Travis D. Hoag Education Fund, c/o Rene Jackson, 310 MidValley Center, Carmel, CA 93923.

My heartfelt condolences to the entire family. The world will be a quieter place without the laughter Brian always brought to all he did and those he was with. I am grateful to have known him and shared some wonderful times with him. He will always remain in my thoughts and memories. My wishes for Travis to hold his Dad in his heart as Brian deeply loved him. Shelley Lamar
