PACIFIC GROVE – Carl Edward Davidson, 84, was born in Cox City, Oklahoma on March 22, 1924, one of six children. Carl passed peacefully into God's Kingdom on November 12, 2008 at Carmel Hills Care Center after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Carl married Ruth Ellen Hill on July 24, 1947 in Wichita Falls, Texas. They raised three children in Oklahoma and Pacific Grove.
After graduating from Rush Spring High School, Oklahoma, Carl became a WWII Navy veteran. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Carl received two Masters degrees from Oklahoma State University in Chemistry and Biology. Carl did research for the Bureau of Mines before beginning a 37-year career as a high school teacher in Biology and Chemistry, as well coaching in Oklahoma, at Monterey High School, and Seaside High School. He retired in 1983.
While living in Pacific Grove for 50 years, Carl and his whole family were very active in Mayflower Church.
Carl is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Bill and Linda Shonley of Prunedale; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Heidi Davidson of Sunnyvale; a granddaughter, Stephanie Shonley of Monterey; three sisters; two brothers-in-law in Oklahoma; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ellen Davidson on November 1, 2007, and a daughter, Shanda Kay Davidson on July 22, 2008.
Carl has always been known for his sincere kindness, as well as being an amazing husband and father, an excellent teacher, and a devout Christian.
He will be greatly missed. A gathering in Carl's memory will be held at his Pacific Grove home on Sunday, November 23, 2008, from 1:30-4:00 p.m.
The family extends its sincere thanks to all the friends who faithfully visited and inquired about Carl, the caring staff at Carmel Hills Care Center, and The Heartland Hospice Staff.

Jeff & Linda:
Your mom and dad were both very special people. My dad, John Newell, had the utmost respect and kind words for both Carl and Ruth. Ruth worked with my mom, Carmela Newell, at the drug store. We also enjoyed seeing you and Carl at Carrow's on Sunday morning. Carl and Ruth are now together again with the Father.

Our sincerest condolences to you and your families. Gloria (Newell) & John Webster and John Newell

To Carl's family: I met Carl at the Carmel HIlls Care Center while my father was a resident this past year. Carl was a kind, caring man and so interesting. He helped to make my father's stay there a good and memorable one. I will remember him with gratitude.

We're so sorry, Linda and Jeff. Your entire family has always meant so much to us. Every time we saw any of you wherever we were you have always made our entire family feel so extra special. We can't say enough about how lucky we have been for all these many 35 years or so to have such super neighbors. Your Dad always greeted us with that great smile that told us he was sincerely happy to see us and said so much about his caring ways - so thoughtful and welcome. Thanks to all of you for all you have done so often.
Love from your greatful neighbors, Howard and Wynette Cowen

I was the first of the Routen's that had Mr.Davidson's chemistry class at Seaside High School. Although chemistry was not my favorite subject, Mr.Davidson was my favorite teacher.
At Christmas almost three years ago, my sister Betty, my brother Michael, and I knocked on Mr.Davidson's door and were warmly invited in. We sat and talked and talked. That is a memory I will cherish.

Mr Davidson was not only my chemistry teacher, but also taught 3 of my siblings. He also taught me how to drive. Three years ago 3 of the Routen kids paid him a visit during the Christmas season. We had a wonderful time with his lovely wife and him. We were invited back. It is a memory that I cherish. Mr Davidson was also a wonderful Christian man, who instilled Christian values in those he taught. He taught about respect, honor, and doing the right things.
