Charles Scudder Obituary
September 28, 1927 ~ May 20, 2012
WALNUT CREEK, CA - Charles Hedley Scudder, 84, passed away peacefully from congestive heart failure at his Rossmoor home on Sunday, May 20, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Charles was born in Oakland, CA to John Henry Hedley and Adele Scudder on September 28, 1927.
Charles was a proud man who lived for his family. He enjoyed traveling and loved playing golf, especially with his sons at the annual Scudder Open Golf Tournament. Charles had an easy going charm and a self-effacing sense of humor that put everyone at ease. He could never tell a joke correctly, but that didn't stop him from being the life of any party. He loved to laugh. His positive attitude and contagious smile will be missed by all who knew him.
Charles served in World War II in the Merchant Marines as an Able Bodied Seaman, and he worked much of his life in the automobile business. He is survived by his ex-wife and friend, Eleanor; daughter, Laurie (Mike) Mee; sons, Steven (Claudia), Ronald (Laura), Peter (Karen); his sister, Maribeth (George) Redman; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Theodore, Peter, Patrick, John, Reginald and sister, Adele.
A Vigil will be held Friday, June 1, 2012 at St. Mary's Church, 2039 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Walnut Creek. The viewing of the body will be from 7:30- 8:00 p.m. The service will begin at 8:00 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the same location. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Hospice of the East Bay.
